Apparently, D'Antoni wanted Deron for Carmelo....

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/219739/DAntoni_Sought_Trade_Of_Carmelo_For_Deron_Williams

I guess that's why he got 'let go'. That would such a spite for D'Antoni - to get DWill to play with Chandler, and Amare....could have been scary.

I would have made that deal if i was the Knicks. I think Melo is the better player by a landslide, however, Williams would have fit into the system much better alongside Amare and Chandler.

This is step one towards my fond desire to see Mike D'Antoni end up as the ringmaster of the Lebron James No-Ring Circus in Miami.

I just threw up in my mouth

You don't want to see the Heat set up to fail?

I don't like Deron in D'Antoni's system. Playing uptempo basketball is probably the weakest area of Deron's game.

Much better in a mixed offense. Not too slow. Not too fast. Gives him some opportunities in both situations and doesn't constrain him to either.

Now, Chris Paul, he would have been fantastic in D'Antoni's offense.

Funny... I posted this in another thread earlier in the day.

After this season I am convinced the Knicks troubles are DAntoni. They have some decent talent, now they just need a better system to run with. DAntoni's run and gun, no defense isn't going to work for the players they have.

With a healthy team, and D'Antoni coaching I can't see the Heat losing.

I just don't see what system is going to work for this team. The pieces don't fit.

Yeah, I love the idea of D'Antoni and Miami together as well.

I think he'd lead them to a title. Miami would be impossible to defend in D'Antoni's system and they'd still maintain a solid defense/rebounding.

I see D'Antoni as the kind of guy who will get out-coached at the end of games and end up having a team that under-performs relative to its talent.

Mike D'Antoni has never did well in the playoffs.  Steve Nash is what made him look good as a coach, period.

He should never have been allowed to coach this team this year. The personnel didn't fit his system.

On the other hand, Mike Woodson to replace him? OMG could they have chosen a worse coach than Woodson. All he is going to do is empower Melo's selfish play and attitude and cause the rest of the team fits.

But Woodson is Isiah Thomas' buddy, so stupidity still reigns in the Big Apple when it comes to post Ewing Knick basketball.

Who's going to run the point if D'Antoni ended up in Miami? LeBron? Wade like Melo doesn't play well without the ball. Miami are fine with a coach that preaches defense. It wouldn't take long for the Heat to forget about defense under D'Antoni.

D'Antoni's sytem: point guard run a pick and roll from the top of the key with a big man.

That's it. That is literally his ENTIRE OFFENSIVE SYSTEM. I wish people would stop talking about it like it was some complex machinery that requires specific parts. Anthony refused to buy into it, because he either can't or doesn't want to play off the ball.

What? This has to be the most ungenerous assement of a coach who changed the careers of more NBA players than anyone of his generation, Stoudemire, Marion, Lee, Richardson, Diaw... JEREMY LIN, only the sports season's single best storyline.

If you believe Nash wins two MVPs without D'Antoni you weren't paying enough attention from 2004 to 2007, which is a shame because you missed a lot of brilliant basketball.

It's also a shame that history is written by the victors. I'll never forgive notorius miser, Robert Sarver for undermining what could've been a D'Antoni and Nash lead dynasty. (Could you imagine the outcry in Boston if Wyck gave away FIVE first round picks for cash and/or cap savings, including most egresiously the #7 pick in 2004, Luol Deng. But also yes, Rondo in 2006.)

And I can't help but think of the almost overnight reassment of Doc Rivers following the Celtics win in 2008. Conversely, it seems D'Antoni is destined to be underappreciated.

With the exception of a couple of mid-decade draft picks, you can pretty much plot the rise and fall of the Knicks by whether a decision was made by Donnie Walsh or Mike D'Antoni on one side and James Dolan or Isiah Thomas on the other.
