Not unexpected that he's out, but I wonder if he really resigned - I think resigning means you don't get paid, but you do if you're fired.

If he did voluntarily resign, that's actually a pretty classy thing to do.  Seems like a nice guy albeit not a great coach.  Wonder if we could get him here as an assistant to work out some new offensive sets?

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Jerry Sloan takes a break from telling kids to get off his lawn to field some calls.

Phil Jackson takes a break from having an awesome life where he basically just tells cool inside jokes nobody gets, and reads insightful books nobody's heard of to tell reporters that'd love to leave the comfort of a well-earned retirement to embrace the pressure of New York to coach a team with absurdly high expectations, absolutely no chemistry, and do all that while working under James Dolan.

It would take reporters a full 72 hours to realize he was being sarcastic.

Mike Woodson will Kill Linsanity. His skill set will not thrive in Woodson's kind of system like it did in Mike D's system.

Good decision. Not the right team for him. Besides Sloan and Jackson:

Mike Fratello
Jeff Van Gundy
Jim O'Brien

or an accomplished assistant like Phil Johnson or Brian Shaw.

I'd actually prefer a no-nonsense defense first coach like JVG/Fratello/JOB if I were the Knicks.

D'Antoni didn't need much help. His finesse style doesn't work in the long run.

I'd just say it doesnt work if the team doesn't buy it, and the roster lacks an established point presence to run it.

Not the right team for anyone.  An disastrous contract in Amare and an absolute ball hog in Anthony.  A defensive coach?  That team isn't built for defense. It's a mess put together by management that D'Antomi didn't want and D'Antoni took the fall for.
