Alex Kennedy: Dwight Howard: "For the past two or three weeks, I've been telling (the Magic) that I want to finish the season here."

I think David Aldridge has it right:

Quote
David Aldridge: Dwight saying he wants to stay in Orlando=Dwight leaving Orlando on July 1 & going to Nets/Dallas, who didn't have to blow up rosters 4 him.

I'm sure he's banking on getting signed-and-traded in the off-season to the team of his choice.

Yep

Live on ESPN right now, Micheal Wallace says Dwight told reporters after tonight's game he "wants to stay for the remainder of the season".

Interesting.... ???

I would trade him.

They just showed him saying it on NBATV...I used to like Dwight but now I see him being so manipulative. Almost worse than Lebron. He just doesn't want the Nets to give up the pieces to get him, so when he goes there in the off season the team is in tact with the pieces he wants.

I really hope Otis Smith isnt stupid enough to keep him but his track record shows he is. SMH.

Because they're winning and the Nets are losing.

It makes no sense for Howard to say he wants to be traded ,even if he wants to be

1) he can be signed and traded and still make the most money possible, he would lose 30 mil by just signing with a new team as a free agent

2) If he gets traded , his new team gives up a bunch of assets, why not just play out the season and go to the nets in the off-season if you are Dwight? If your New Jersey you get to keep Marshon Brooks, their lottery pick and Lopez plus add Howard instead of trading all those pieces for Howard .

He still plans on going to New Jersey but he doesn't want NJ to give up players on the team he is going to go to leaving the cupboard bare.

They should trade him.

I'm pretty sure they changed the rules so if you sign and trade someone they do not get the extra money they would have with their original team.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

For Dwight it makes tons of sense. For the Magic it makes zero sense to let the best center in the league walk away for free.

Should be clear by now Dwight wants to finish season in ORL so he can opt out in July and head straight to Brooklyn w/out Nets being gutted

Quite clearly, Dwight wants his cake and eat it, too. Some Magic officials privately disgusted with his comments tonight, sources say.

Dwight really needs a new PR team...he's starting to look as bad as Lebron did

I'm sure he's banking on getting signed-and-traded in the off-season to the team of his choice.

New CBA rules state that sign and trade contracts are essentially no different than a newly signed non-bird rights contract.

Only Orlando would gain from that, or a team with no cap room looking to sign him.

I doubt he goes the sign and trade route.

I'm surprised you, of all people, missed this Roy.

The rumor is that Otis Smith wants to trade Dwight Howard but is being overruled from above.

It sounds to me like Alex Martins (name?) wants to be the hero that saved the day and convinced Dwight Howard to stay. His own personal ambition / ego getting in the way of Orlando's decision making.

According to Orlando newspaper writer it's a two team race. Says D12's latest pronouncement tonight doesn't change anything because he can still leave to NJ and the Nets would have kept their assets.  The writer makes the very good point that there is no reason D12 would go to Brooklyn if he wants to win in the near future.  It's all about marketing in NYC and ORL management knows it.  If he goes to LAL for Bynum, it will still be Kobe's team so I doubt he'll commit to an extension.  ORL's owner however is elderly and may have too much tied up in D12 emotionally.

I hope they trade him, Hedo and BBD to the Nets and strip the Nets of all their young assets and some first  round picks.

I'd say it's probably more about making himself look good to the owner, who himself does not want to trade Howard out of a misplaced belief he can keep him.  In a way, he's being nothing more than a "yes man".
