In light of the Ray Allen trade rumors, I figured it would be interesting to see how the lineup fared with our most likely fill-in for him (Pietrus) inserted at SG. If you're not happy with the thought of Ray leaving Boston, these stats might at least make you feel a little better about Pietrus being the one to take his spot. We tend to play pretty well with him out there

As long as the hustle, locker room presence and defense is there, you cannot complain with pietrus one bit. He'll make the occasional corner 3. Nothing serious.

Incorrect. Pietrus is a stronger defender than Ray. He is also an extremely good defensive rebounder- far superior than Ray. We can bring Ray in as the 6th man because he is a better scorer than Pietrus and just needs to come off picks. Even Avery Bradley can find Ray for an open three. Ray can also drive to the hole better than Pietrus.

I am actually very surprised they haven't experimented with this line up change more.
If we play the Heat in the playoffs, Pietrus will be much better suited to guarding Wade than Ray. Ray is just a step slower than he used to be.

Imagine if he starts hitting that three like he is capable of and then having Ray Allen coming in off the bench- Ray would spread the floor for Avery to drive as well.

Shooting and offense aren't everything.

If his knee was healthy I would think it would be a good move for the team

pietrus isn't the offensive threat ray is but he adds better defense and toughness which I think the starting unit could use, our 2nd unit doesn't have a scorer due to fact bass is now a starter

With Pietrus offensive you take the bad with the good , he is streak shooter in my eyes. But, to me his main asset is that he is not timid about playing the Wades , Rose and Kobe's of the league.  He enjoys giving them a hard time and getting under their skin. I enjoy watching him ruff up the elite scorers.  His defense is just as important as Rays offense . Its  in Doc's hands to insert them at the correct moments to get best player on player situation .

That's simply not good enough to be a starting SG in the NBA.

Not to mention the always-lingering injury concerns.

I was very impressed with Pietrus's play last night.  I don't think he got enough credit about his stellar D.  He's not a lockdown 1-on-1 defender like Posey is but he's excellent at the help-out defense and caused a few turnovers for us.  I would say he was a top 4 defender in the LAC game last night.

But as a starter?  I don't think so.  His offensive game isn't there although I'm liking how he is slashing to the hoop some more.  Ray is still the guy for us but I'm not going to be too disappointed if he somehow gets injured and Pietrus needs to step in.

I'm not sure this team has an answer at 2 guard if Ray isn't playing well, but I'd rather see Bradley get some minutes there than more of Pietrus.  Yeah, he's undersized against a lot of 2 guards in the league, but the Clippers were manning that spot Monday with Randy Foye and Mo Williams.  There's no reason Bradley couldn't have physically matched up with those guys.  With as much as Bradley's improved, I don't understand why Doc isn't looking to get him on the floor more than just the 7-8 minutes Rondo isn't playing.

I'm not sure I can discount about 2 full games of playing time with a +52 scoring differential as 'useless.' The first lineup I posted is the 4th most used lineup for us this year and it's tied for the highest +/-. The Celtics have played really well with him at SG this year. that's not disputable

with that said, he is not as good as Ray Allen. I'm aware.

I think it'd be an interesting idea to start SG when facing teams with two offensively potent wings.

Doc won't change the starting line-up because of that though.

I hope Pietrus starts hitting his long range jump-shots soon. He's been in a serious slump for a month and a half now.

Even if you'd like him to start you can't rely on him health wise. When he's missing a bunch of games it would just screw with the starters chemistry. He should be on the bench playing his role, as a role player

I never said he should start. It just seemed like the quoted poster was dissing what pietrus was providing the team and its kinda unfair to do that IMO. Considering what he's paid.

He's in a slump, simple as that, I expect him to come out of it, hes a great shooter especially in the playoffs.

As bad as Pietrus is right now hes still not at Dooling level bad.
