Larry Legend insinuates that Danny Ainge is Lying

I wonder who called who on that one.

Ha! Some people said I was crazy to suggest Ray + Bass for Hansbrough + 1st.

Out of Paul George or Roy Hibbert, I can't see anyone on the Pacers who could be worth trading for... but Larry Legend is a GM too, and we shouldn't believe what he says about trade offers, just like Danny Ainge.

But I wouldn't call you crazy, it's more like you like Hansbrough a lot... I don't know why, but that's just me.

A few things:

1) I wish Jordan was born 5-10 years earlier. If he had to go toe to toe with Magic, Larry, and Dr. J in their primes, he certainly would not have won 6 rings.

2) I always thought Danny was lying or distorting the truth. Even if the story was true, it totally discounted the financial realities of today's NBA where letting the Big Three's contacts expires likely has more value than trading then.

3) Finally, even if we traded the Big Three, would things have really been that different. While guys like Chuck Person. Detlef Schrempf, and Sam Perkins were nice players, they were far more likely to lead us to perpetual mediocrity than multiple championships.

Also, through various books, stories and statements I feel like I've read or heard many stories where Bird either lied, contradicted him self or said something that just didn't add up.

Must read - Unfinished Business -  a book about the Celtics 1990 season. This book is great and it makes Bird look like Kobe.

In a way, yes. He shot too much and was selfish during that season. Chris Ford wanted to fast break and be an uptempo team. Bird didn't and wanted to do things his way. He wasn't the best teammate. If you read Parish's comments, much of that is documented in the book.

  Ironically that seems to be the season that Bird passed the ball the most.

Bird was playing when he should have retired, who knows how much pain that he was in with the back.  I give him a pass on that one.

I strongly recommend reading the book. There's alot about Bird in there, not all negative but he doesn't always come across as the great team player he is portrayed to be. I can't remember everything off hand but he didn't see eye to eye with Chris Ford. There are backgrounds about each player, some great McHale stories and one liners.

The Jordan Rules book really puts Jordan on Kobe's level. It tears him apart.

You initially suggested Ray/Bass for Hansbrough/Dahntay Jones, and, yes, you were crazy to suggest it!

I've always felt that Ainge would say anything to get his "spin" out there.  Mention the alleged Red breakup story set the table for Ainge to break up the New Big 3 if he needed to.  

One thing I loved about Jackie Mackie's story about the original Big 3 was Parish's quote about his experience with Michael Jordan and the Chief closed out his career with the Bulls

In one of his first practices with the Bulls, Parish botched one of the plays and was amused to find Jordan jawing at him just inches from his face.

"I told him, 'I'm not as enamored with you as these other guys. I've got some rings too,' " Parish recalled. "At that point he told me, 'I'm going to kick your ass.' I took one step closer and said, 'No, you really aren't.' After that he didn't bother me."

Jordan was a ****bag, is a ****bag, and always will be a ****bag.  Now he's one who owns the most woeful team in NBA history.  

The Chief stepped to Jordan like a Boss. Jeff Van Gundy described Michael Jordan perfectly as "Con-Man".

Like a boss? lol. He's a half a foot taller.  I know one's a celtic and one isnt, so the glasses are a bit tinted, but it dosnt take much guts to stand up to someone a half a foot shorter than you.  On the other hand, not many people would have the balls to challenge someone a half foot taller than they are.  If this story was told from a different perspective it might sound quite a bit different.

Similarly, for everyone that says jordan was lucky to not have had to face Magic or Bird in their prime, one could also say that Magic and Bird were lucky to have established their legacies before Jordans era.  If they had to go through him to win, they could just as easily have suffered the fate of his contemporaries, and lost their place in history.

It's all about perspective.

I'd have to stop watching the Celtics if they had Hansbrough on the team.
