Sign jeff green to minimum contract to lower his cap hold for next year.

This may be the last year wyc & co pay the tax, because it is increasing by a lot in 2 years time (19 mill over the cap will result in $65 mill in taxes for instance)and therefore is a limit to what the c's will spend in the future but this move adds a ton of flexablitly. If the c's stand pat, and assuming bass opts out they should have around $25 million in cap space, should be enough to sign allen and garnett plus a good 1 or 2 good free agents that could help this team like Camby, Hawes, IIyasova, Batum(RFA), G Wallace, Asik(RFA), Humphries.

It's not going to happen.  Danny made Green an unrestricted Free Agent (which I do not believe he needed to do), so that he could explore his options this summer (and so the C's would have the option of using the cap space, since he would likely have just signed the QO otherwise).

Green is going to be able to get something close to, or likely over the MLE next season, if he is willing to sign a one year deal.  And there is a good chance it will be elsewhere, if Danny decides to use the cap space.

I've mentioned this idea in the past.  Basically, by shrinking Green's cap hold, it makes it possible that the Celtics could retain Green's Bird rights and go well over the cap to sign him without having to renounce him the way the team would have to renounce free agents such as KG and RA to sign or trade for a player with a big salary.  If Green is a player worth the MLE who will sign for that much, it's a bit like getting a second MLE in addition to the "room" exception for teams that start out below the salary cap.

Considering how close Green has been with the team throughout this year, I'm pretty confident he'll be back.

I think it's a pretty long shot that Danny will find a use for so much of the cap space that we won't be able to afford Green on a one year deal.

Yeah, I think its the most likely scenario too.  But I don't think there is any chance he is back for the veteran minimum, and he certainly isn't signing that before he tests the market.
