Trade Ray and Bass along with either JJJ or a first round pick.

Smith and Rondo cant shoot but they should work together really well.  The main thing is, it might help get Howard.

to get it done we could also throw in JJJ:
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=6mvq97d

if we did manage to get dwight this summer our starting lineup would be:

PG: Rondo
SG: Ray (if he reups with us on a favorable deal)
SF: Williams
PF: Smith
C: Howard

That lineup is uber athletic, with some of the top defensive players at their positions in the league respectively (williams is no slouch on defense). Rondo would have the perfect set of running mates on the break for the next few years.

PG:Rondo
SG:Gordon or mayo
SF:Jeff green
PF:Josh Smith
C:Dwight Howard

^ that's better
Not really possible.  Not enough money to go around even if we didn't take on Marvin Williams salary.

Smith for Pierce straight up leaves us with 28 mil in cap space in the offseason.

Dwight alone would take 18 mil... leaving you with 10 mil total to split between Mayo/Gordon (both restricted... not happening) and Jeff Green.

i never said get both gordon and mayo, mayo wants out of Memphis so he is possible.

and if we do get marvin maybe a sign and trade with memphis?

I dread watching those two in half court setting.

I think the number of alley-oops would be pretty significant. Put a couple of shooters on the court to spread the floor and you'd be fine.

Do people even watch Atlanta games? Smith is the 3rd best player on a team that is barely above ours in the standings.

I tend to think their problem is more Joe Johnson than Josh Smith.  Talentwise, Rondo, Smith, and an aging Paul Pierce might be a stronger core for next season than Al Horford, Johnson, and Smith.

I say flip the switch!

Trade Rondo to ATL and get Smith and a First rounder.

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7uk7ekg

Send our second and Atl second with JO for Beasley.

Ask them to through in Teague too.

Josh Smith demanding a trade means one thing, we NEED to put an offer on the table not including Rondo. If that means Pierce or Allen and Johnson and a 1st, then do it. I don't know what some of you are thinking saying that Smith isn't a piece for rebuilding or enticing Howard? Rondo, Smith, and Howard all have history together! And I don't know if any of you read this, but on Hoopshype back at the beginning of the season it said Smith lost weight to give him the ability to play the 3 and 4. If we take on Williams, we get YOUNG, athletic, and and two players who can give us the ability to play the 3 and 4 positions. A combo of Pierce/Allen, Bass and Johnson and a 1st sets us up well for the future

Jay Diggles, that's a pretty good trade. I also like the possible 3 way deal involving Boston, NOLA, and ATL

ATL recieves: Kaman, Jack, Allen Bass, 1st(from Boston)
Bos recieves: Smith, Ariza, Jones
NOLA recieves: Hinrich, Williams, O'Neal, Teague, and JJJ 1st(from ATL)

Who knows if it would work, but it solves a lot of problems for all 3 teams involved.

And despite their "history" together, despite the fact that Howard is from Atlanta and has a house in Atlanta, he has never, ever mentioned that being a factor or that Atlanta was a possible destination. If Smith isn't enough to interest him in going to Atlanta, why would it interest him in coming to Boston?

And again, only someone who doesn't watch the hawks play could think he can play the 3 and the 4. His outside shot is terrible for a 3, and he can't really defend 3s on the perimeter. He is a 4 through and through.

He may be Howard's friend, but given Howard's insistence on playing for a contender, the more we give up for Smith the less likely Howard is to come here.

And Marvin Williams? People will celebrate around the streets in Atlanta if they are able to get rid of Marvin Williams and Josh Smith in a single move, while landing draft picks and cap space.

So...you're telling me that Howard would be MORE willing to go play in New Jersey with only Deron Williams and a "bag of rocks" than coming to Boston to play with Rajon Rondo, Josh Smith, Pierce/Allen/KG or whoever is back, Marvin Williams? Proven players? And really? Dancing in the street? Marvin Williams is 25 years old and has been in ATL his entire career. If you haven't noticed ATL is a dead spot for sports except the Braves. Give him some fresh air, a real team, a real coach and a real organization, with a PG like Rondo yeah I'll take my chances. And hey also, did you see how ATL played Miami the other night? Williams and Smith must be DECENT to play Miami as well as they did huh? I'm not saying Howard will come to Beantown if we land Smith, but it'd give us a hell of a better chance than "Absolutely NO consideration" at the moment

I could see Howard being just like a lot of people and over-valuing volume scoring so that he only wants to go to a team with another 20ppg guy.

Smith is not the key to rebuilding. He is also not the key to landing Howard.
Do you watch Hawks games? he's easily been their best player this year this year 17ppg 10rpg 4apg 2spg 2bpg dude been puttin up those numbers wit  fan base tht aint too fond of him I think he would love to play wit rondo
