Ric Bucher was waxing on about the potential of a trade to bring Odom to Boston. By the end of his spiel, he had me thinking it could actually work out.

But, strictly speaking about Odom, I'd prefer to use the JO contract and filler to get it done.

I'll tell you though, it does make sense, if the C's are getting back say, Odom and Bledsoe, and the Mavs are getting back an expiring contract like Foye (since Odom has a couple million guaranteed next year, which they would likely want to shed)...

A minor tweak of this works, in theory: It's Foye and Gomes to Mavs; Odom and Bledsoe to Celts; Ray to Clippers.

I suspect the Celts would have to throw in something else of value, because that seems like a pretty big return for a rental of 36 year old Ray, good fit though he'd be on the Clips.

How do you guys feel about bledsoe though... I'm not a huge fan, maybe because I haven't paid too much attention to him.... And Odom is basically everything we've ever wanted from Green

Since when has Ray become injury prone?

I can't imagine why the Celts would be keen to trade for Bledsoe, considering they already have Bradley, who at least recently has been a better player.

A trade of Ray to the Clippers for Bledsoe, Foye, and a future first would technically meet the Celtics' supposed criteria for a Big 3 trade, though -- a young talent and a pick.

...and we get back Foye - the player we would most likely have taken [not Roy] back when we traded for Telfair...

I doubt that plays a huge role, though perhaps Ainge could view Foye as a passable plug-in at SG (backup most likely) to keep the team somewhat competitive post-trade.

Trade that doesn't hurt the team enormously and gets a couple of (modest) future assets.  Sounds like a trade Danny could contemplate -- though it almost doesn't seem extreme enough.

I feel like Danny doesn't believe in going halfway with things; if he's going to trade one of the key players on the team, he's only going to do so if he believes the result could be a homerun -- a high reward move, even if it's a high risk one (e.g. the Perkins trade).

Why does everbody always say Ray will walk next year and well lose him? Is it that we won't have the money or would want to pay him something decent next year? because it seems Ray wouldn't want to leave town and stay with us at a fair price but who knows

I think Ray might want to stay, but only if Ainge is bringing back the whole gang with the idea of making another run at it.  I just don't see why that would happen, considering the team apparently doesn't think the team is a contender this season, let alone next season.

I'm sure Ray loves being here, but I'm also fairly sure he's not like Steve Nash and Grant Hill; I think he'll want to finish his career on a team that's looking to win games now, not rebuilding.

I imagine there is a good chance he walks, especially if KG retires (or goes elsewhere).

Teams that feel he would put them over the top will likely be willing to pay more than us. On the other hand, if we are unable to use up our cap space on worthwhile signings, I could see us signing him to a good one year deal just to fill our roster.

I was kidding, but Foye was pretty darn good for a couple of years in Minny. I don't know why he fell off the face of the planet, but maybe he could become somewhat successful again in the right environment.

I believe Gomes has another year on his deal.  I only think this makes sense for Dallas if they are clearing extra cap room next year, and with Gomes, they would actually be adding salary.

Yeah.  I don't see it for Dallas -- I think they're determined to keep Odom.

A direct trade between LAC and BOS makes the most sense to me.
