If team X trades a player to team Y, can that player resign with team X in the following off season?

I believe I heard something about the CBA requiring a 1 year period where the player can not sign with his former team. Is this true?

Just curious regarding the Smith for Allen rumors, I would love me some J Smoove but I would like to see Ray retire a Celtic!

My understanding is that when a player becomes a free agent they are free to sign anywhere they want... however im not an expert under the new cba so i could be wrong. i only know that players traded and waived have to wait 30 or 60 days to resign with that same team in the same year.

The new CBA changed the rule on players who are traded and then waived so that a team can't resign a player who it traded then waived by his new team until one year after the trade or after his contract would have expired, whichever is earlier.
