According to a Brazilian report the Celtics have inquired with the Raptors what it would take to acquire reserve guard Leandro Barbosa. The Raptors are looking to clear cap space to make a contract offer for restricted free agent Wilson Chandler (one large enough to dissuade the Nuggets from matching). The Raptors are looking for an expiring contract and a first rounder in return for the 29 year old Brazilian native.

No way I give up a 1st for Barbosa. They are clearly looking for scoring off the bench.

The deadline for chandler to sign an offer sheet was today so the raptors can't sign him anyway. The celtics probably inquired then found out the raptors were crazy enough to want a first for barbosa.

I agree. However,.......Would you do a pick and dooling or Jo and etuan for Calderon?

I think barbosa comes cheaper plus he also fits the uptempo style I see the team moving towards.

  • Rondo = Good
I'd be okay with signing Barbosa to a relatively cheap 1 or 2 year free agent deal in the off-season as a young-ish veteran presence who would fit with Rondo.  Doesn't make any sense to give up any assets whatsoever for him in the present, though.

I could conscience giving up a first for Beasley, perhaps . . . but certainly not for Barbosa.

I'd probably trade jo and a late second if the beasley deal falls apart.

If a backup pg was our missing piece or Rondo was traded for an all star big, then yes. Calderon is imo underrated and can really take over a game. But no, we don't need him.

A late first for Barbosa is a fair asking price.

The Celtics would need to find a way to add a real impact player elsewhere to make it worthwhile for them though. If they could do that, then yeah definitely, I'd happily give up a first for Barbosa. Large upgrade for the bench.

Trouble is that if we cling to the fact that a vet will help us it will only hurt the rebuild.   We need young guys back not vets.   We really are not contenders and to think that one piece is going to help us turn it around is folly at this point.  At least not a piece we could afford with our assets.

Go young, bite the bullet and get picks.   That is the best way to rebuild.

Barbosa and Gray for JO, Dooling, and Daniels works on the trade machine.  We'd have to throw in the Clips pick, but I think I might do it.  Gray is a solid backup center/borderline starter.

I like Barbosa as a player, Im not really a fan of putting lipstick on a pig though, and thats what I think adding Barbosa to help with this year would do
CB Draft LA Lakers: Lamarcus Aldridge, Carmelo Anthony,Jrue Holiday, Wes Matthews  6.11, 7.16, 8.14, 8.15, 9.16, 11.5, 11.16

Barbosa is not bad at all. Similar to Pietrus. I will trade for Pavlovich.
