CoachBo Larry, what is the most likely move Danny Ainge will make at the deadline?
Larry Coon: The Celtics are in an interesting situation. Do they try to make one more run with Pierce, KG and Ray Allen, or do they cash in their chips and start the rebuilding process? I don’t think they’re title contenders even if they make a move — they’re not getting past Miami or Chicago — but word is that Boston is thinking they still have enough to make one more deep playoff run.
If they do decide to blow it up, then Ray Allen is the most logical choice to be moved.
If they decide to make one more run — in fact, whether or not they decide to make one more run — then I’m hearing that Rajon Rondo isn’t a part of their future plans. I think moving Rondo is their most likely move, and if they move him, that they want to bring in a big man to help them for the playoffs.
Since my last trade ideas thread got soundly shut down and I'm a glutton for punishment here are a bunch of possible Rondo trade ideas.
To Atlanta: Rajon Rondo, JO
To Boston: Josh Smith, Jeff Teague
Gives us a pg with high upside plus a very athletic ¾ to build around. Saves Atlanta from having to pay Teague and Smith in the future.
To Indiana: Rajon Rondo, Jermaine O’Neal
To Boston: Danny Granger, Tyler hansbrough, 1st
This is probably a deal you only do if you move Pierce or Allen and decide to blow it up entirely. I’m fine with it because of the potential I see in Bradley. Indiana would move George to the 3 then start Hill once he’s healthy. I’d love to get back George for Rondo but someone on espn said we asked and were turned down.
To New Jersey: Rajon Rondo, JO
To Boston: Deron Williams
If Jersey doesn’t think they can sign Deron this deal makes sense for them.
To Philly: Rajon Rondo, Brandon Bass
To Boston: Holliday, Turner, Nocioni, 1st
Philly gets an upgrade at pg and a good big, we get two young prospects in Turner and Holliday.
To GSW: Rajon Rondo
To Boston: Steph Curry, Biedrins
Curry’s value is probably higher than Rondo’s but taking on Biedrins evens the deals out.
To LA Lakers: Rajon Rondo, JO
To Boston: Pau Gasol
Already discussed at length
To Phoenix: Rajon Rondo, JO
To Boston: Steve Nash, Gortat
Phoenix gets a piece for Nash who might leave as a free agent, we get two guys that make us better now.
To Sacramento: Rajon Rondo
To Boston: Francisco Garcia and Tyreke Evans or DeMarcus Cousins
Prefer the Cousins deal, Sacto gets exactly what they need on a team full of chuckers, a facilitator.
To Utah: Rajon Rondo, Keyon Dooling
To Utah: Al Jefferson
We get big Al back, who helps us with half court scoring and rebounding, our biggest deficiencies.
