I was glancing through ESPN NBA online and the one of the titles for their Insider article was that Chandler not able to get a one year deal and may head over to Europe. What's that about? I would've thought that he would have been coveted by many teams upon his return to the states.

Heck I would think the Celts would love to add someone like him, who's kind of like a more athletic, but less dominating version of Pierce. Does it have to do with the fact that he's still a restricted free agent?

I think it's some issue with his RFA status and what followed after he turned down the Nuggets offer before the lockout

I read yesterday that Toronto is trying to trade Barbosa in order to open up enough cap space to make Chandler an offer.

Basically, the only way he can play this season is if he signs with the Nuggets.  The Nuggets only want to sign him to a multi-year deal, but he doesn't want to -- he wants to be an unrestricted free agent this summer.

The only way for Wilson to be a UFA this summer is to sit out the rest of the season.  Therefore, he might look to Europe, at least for the rest of the season.

Don't they have to make a qualifying offer first, or lose his RFA rights?  Seems like an easy out for Chandler.  Or did going to China screw that up for him?

I believe that he will be a RFA this summer, regardless of what he does the rest of the season.  If I remember correctly, as long as a player is playing professional basketball, then the team maintains their RFA status, as long as they offer him a QO each year.

They did give him a QO, however, it has expired.  Qualifying offers always have a deadline to be signed, at which point the offer is off the table, but the player remains a RFA until they either sign a contract with their original team, sign an offer sheet, or sit out a year (and they cannot play in another professional league during that year).

Seems like 11th hour one hour deal gets done, though I don't understand why the Nets wouldn't be more aggressive in trying to land him.

So in a manner of speaking he is Denver's slave/property, and since they are treating him that way he will do a really clever FU hold out.  Hmmm. I'm surprised because it doesn't get him any closer to UFA.  And he loses a year of vesting for the nba pension. I would think he'd rather play a half year in the nba for nba money and get closer to UFA, then go to Europe for half a year for Europe money and not get closer to UFA and still have to play a year in the nba at RFA money anyway.

Maybe I'm missing something. I like the FU move though

I think you are jumping to extremes.  This isn't an FU move.  It is him deciding that he doesn't want to sign a longterm deal with Denver right now, but he knows he can make money for the rest of the season by going to Europe.

If he plays in the NBA, he actually gets further away from UFA, because he can only play in the NBA this season if he signs a long term contract.  If he sits out the rest of the season, he is restricted this summer, and unrestricted next summer.

Ugh. Just checked, they don't.... because they spent 10 million on Mehmet Okur. What a miserable fail.

They've got Gerald Green. They're fine.

Sacramento would be a very good home for Wilson Chandler. $10 million below the cap.

Get to be part of that core going forward along with Tyreke and Cousins.

but if he's restricted this summer and some team gives him a long term deal then Denver could match it and he's stuck in Denver, right? And if no team gives him a deal then Denver could/would just offer the same long term deal again? Then he'd never get to UFA?
