Does anyone else get the sense that a major Celtic trade is about to go down come March 5th? Ainge has been pretty explicit in recent interviews that he doesn't believe we're contenders anymore and that he would entertain offers at the right price. Well isn't the right price substantially lower than ever for these guys? Heck, I bet expiring contracts and a top 10 protected pick could net either Allen or KG at this point. Something BIG will happen soon.

Remember, remember the 5th of Novem..oop I meant March.

I thought the trade deadline was the 15th of March. What's the significance of the 5th of March?

All the players who signed with their current teams last offseason become eligible to trade on March 5th.

I don't think there is one.  I imagine he meant the 15th.

I'm fairly certain Ainge is itching to make a big deal to put this team back on the map.  I'm much less certain that any such opportunity will actually present itself.

I think it's more likely that Ainge will try furiously to make something happen, with lots of rumors flying around about various players being shopped, only to come up short -- or perhaps a very minor deal.  Very similar to the crazy period right before the start of this season, basically.

I'm trying to find the link but you could be right...

Anyway, the date is significant because it makes eleligible 30-35% more of the league I would imagine. There was a ton of movement before the season began.

I agree that we won't start seeing any deals until the 1st, but I don't think any major deals will happen until right before the deadline on the 15th -- mainly because everybody is waiting to see if the major domino -- Dwight Howard -- will or won't fall.  Much of what will happen around the trade deadline will depend on what the Magic choose to do with Howard, and that might not be clear until the day of the deadline.

Didn't everyone learn about the Perkins trade like within 4 minutes of the deadline expiring?

Yes.  While there were a lot of rumors flying around about various trades, nobody heard anything about that particular trade until it happened.

"Et tu, Brute?"

+1...took the words (most of them) right out of my mouth....Danny et al. better heed the seers warning given to Caesar: "Beware the Ides of March".

Not to be dramatic here, but the decisions that Ainge will soon make could effect the franchise (positively or negatively) for the next ten years.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I wonder if they'll hurry things along because of the compressed schedule. Get these deals done faster (by the 3rd/4th) so new players can learn their new systems/team mates.

7 days can mean 4-5 games at the moment.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.
