If this Bynum/Gasol end up in Orlando AND they get Nash as has been rumored, that's a pretty impressive lineup:
Bynum
Gasol/Anderson
JRich
Reddick
Nash
Not much depth after that, but the 1st 6 look pretty tough together.
It would look great, but they don't have the assets to land Nash.
Maybe they do. Nash will not be in Phoenix next year. Given that and the Suns desire to accommodate Nash's wishes, I see the Suns taking Nelson, Orton a 1st round pick and cash (Sarver would insist on that) to offset some of Nelson's salary for Nash.
Why take on Nelson's 8 million dollars over 2 years, Orton (a guy who is not currently panning out) and a late first when there are other teams out there who can offer something useful?
The Suns have made it pretty clear that they will accommodate Nash's wishes. He walks at year's end anyway.
Orton has potential and is on a rookie salary for 2 years after this one. He is very cheap for a potentially serviceable big. Sarver loves cheap contracts.
Cash has to be included by Magic to offset part of Nelson's salary. Nelson expires next year and could be the veteran bridge point guard for Suns.
Orlando's first round pick will also be required, perhaps with the Suns' option to exercise it this year or next (or the next).
Right, I get how this deal makes sense in a vacuum, but with all the other stuff out there, the possible trades, I can't think a floundering prospect (Orton), a late 1st, and and overpaid mediocre point guard is gonna be the deal he takes.
Agreed. Not the most attractive offer I've seen. And you would think that there would be better offers out there, but the contenders that need Nash are the Lakers (who have two 1sts this year), the Magic, the Heat (less so now with Cole) and the Knicks pre-Lin. None have expirings though to offer Sarver.
I guess the argument could be made that any team would be made better by Nash, even as a backup. If that's the case, that opens it up much wider to teams like the Pacers, Utah, the Blazers etc who could offer a combination of young talent, picks or expirings.
Don't think that the Suns trade him to somewhere that he doesn't want to go though. That really limits the Suns' options, because I don't think that he will want to play with a non-contender.
I agree, though that the Magic offer is weak.
