Orlando Magic 'Aggressively pursuing Steve Nash'

Otis Smith intends to "aggressively" pursue a trade for Steve Nash, according to multiple sources.

Nash is in the final season of his contract with the Suns, while Orlando is attempting to make a last ditch effort to improve their roster to keep Dwight Howard.

They still can't win with J Rich at the two spot.
Although Nash, Anderson and Howard is a nice threesome.

Yeah, but who are they gonna give up for Nash? They've got no good young assets outside of Andersen, and if by getting Nash they trade ANdersen, I don't know how much of a win that'll be.

They've got zero expirings, they've got zero young assets, and they've got no low draft picks IIRC.

hrm.  can't really see how they would.  i imagine nelson would be involved in any such trade, too, and they'd probably have to take on a bad contract (like Childress).

True.  I suppose they could do something like Nelson, Reddick, and a pick or two for Nash and Childress.

The problem is, I think if Nash hits the market, there will be teams with much more to offer who will be in the market for him.  So, unless he is deadset on going to Orlando, and they decide to grant his request, I just don't think its likely.

If they can get Channing Frye back in the deal, Ryan Anderson isn't that big of a loss.

I imagine Phoenix would be open to moving Frye's long term deal.

That takes Childress and Warrick off the books. Couple it with a first (or two), and I think maybe Phoenix goes for it. Maybe. Probably not.

This would be a great move for the C's, as it would mean that Orlando means to keep DH through to FA, when Boston's odds of landing him would improve.

If I am Phoenix, I want no part of Jameer Nelson.

I'd be looking for a three team deal that sends Jameer somewhere else and gives Phoenix some type of asset. A trade exception. A first round pick. An expiring deal. A decent young player (rotation worthy/potential). Something.

If the Magic were intent on keeping Anderson I think they could do something that would help Phoenix clear a ton of salary.  Something like Nelson, Redick, and 1st for Nash and Childress (Frye could also both be included saving Phoenix even more long term money if they took back Duhon or Smith and Q. Richardson).  Not a terrible offer, but I imagine Phoenix could probably do better if they officially put Nash on the block.

What would the best alternative Steve Nash trade look like? Presumably only a title contender or near title contender would pursue him so ...

Atlanta -- Teague and Hinrich
Dallas -- Jason Terry or Lamar Odom and Roddy Beaubois and another asset (Dom Jones or a 1st)
Indiana -- Darren Collison
Lakers -- Have to give a bad contract to Phoenix. Can offer several first round picks + have trade exception to take worse contracts from Suns.
Memphis -- Mike Conley and change
New York -- Jeremy Lin and filler
Portland -- Raymond Felton or Jamal Crawford and change

Miami and Boston (Rondo?) don't really have anything to offer. Oklahoma, the LA Clippers and Chicago have young franchise player PGs already in place. San Antonio have Tony Parker. Phily have Jrue Holiday and are unlikely to make that type of title-push given their other personnel.

I 'm not surprized at all.  I imagine Smith has been given the green light to make ANY trade that keeps Howard in Orlando.  

The only deal Smith can't make is to trade DH .  I think the owner has locked down this option , and they will ride out DH12 till the end ... he is old and will at least get to see DH perform and play for a banner this year.  And I think , DH will play hard and give his best effort in the playoffs.

Getting Nash would take them further in the play offs.  Nelson is a fat/lazy bum....who told AB to lighten up his defense , that he was getting tired...that is the sign of a loser.  

I wouldn't want Nelson on my team after he beggs AB for quarter

just thinking a little out of the box but maybe the magic pursuing nash is for the post howard era this year. there are rumors that LA is willing to give up gasol/bynum for howard/turkoglu/nelson. that would make ryan anderson somehwat expendable for the magic and they could possibly trade him for nash/bad contract on phoenix.

so they could have nash/j rich/sf/gasol/bynum. they could be a decent sf away from having a very good team.

not saying it's gonna happen but some food for thought b/c i'm bored.

Could they trade assests and contracts for Nash to make a run this season and then let him expire and have enough cash to make a free agent run at Dwill? Any possibility?
