Hmmm.  Starting at the 4 minute mark, Danny points out that their being so poor at offensive rebounding is a problem.  

Then he notes that they haven't been good at it partly because of personnel and that they haven't been good at been offensive rebounding since the Leon Powe era.

It seems like they need a center more than a pf if they're bringing someone in as an injury replacement, but could old friend Leon get another chance here?

Leon Powe was an unsung hero....of mine..glad Danny saw this too.....This is why I liked Sheldon Williams, and now Steamer....watch who runs toward the hoop when the shot is up, and who runs away....The guy who runs and moves toward the rebound is the guy with the Heart..! ORB's are team GOLD..! It would also be nice if the team started passing to Steamer after he sets the pick and is in THE PAINT..!!!

Leon is cooked. It's hard to rebound when you have no legs. If he was even halfway healthy he would have been back here a while ago.

Steamer and Shelden have never been nearly as good as Powe was when he was healthy, not even close.

Were they ever a good offensive rebounding team (in the Big Three Era)?  I'm not sure the 14.4 mpg and the 1.7 ORB Powe averaged in '07-08 really made that big of a difference.

Bass could help.....but DOC has to support the rebounding better....He DID say in the past he didn't care for rebounds....I am NOT holding himn to this 100%...but I haven't ever heard a coach EVER say or feel that before..! I think he has shown this by trading, or not playing rebounders, and definitely not supporting them as a coach.....you get a guy who gets those ORB's, you try to reward them with "in the paint" passes..when possible. It is in the teams best interest to get steamer a rebounder who puts it back up after a move or two.....the other team HATES rebounders, and they cause soooo much foul trouble and opposite team dissention..!

Danny pointed out that coaching was a factor, with the poor ORB in part a byproduct of the emphasis on getting back in transition, and also that they haven't been a good DRB team in recent years either.

Here's our offensive rebounding percentage and our league rank in each year of the Big Three era:

2007-08: 26.6%; 17th (but about league average)
2008-09: 27.9%; 7th in the league
2009-10: 22.8%; 28th in the league
2010-11: 21.1%; 30th in the league
2011-12: 21.5%; 30th in the league

Danny appears to be right; when Leon left after the '09 season, our rebounding took a pretty substantial hit.  I don't know if that's due to a change in philosophy, or if it's solely personnel related (replacing Powe with a perimeter player like Rasheed didn't help a lot.)

Didn't Celtics conscientiously make an effort to sign more jump shooting bigs. It all goes back to Rondo. Remember how putrid the offense was with Perk and Rondo on the floor 3 on 5 offense. Celtics opted to go for Rasheed Wallace's of the world. The downside when the Bigs stay out on the perimeter, there isn't anyone to crash the boards.

as a fan, we might not be seeing things upper management does..but on my perspective,leon has more upsides and the options of him rejoining us should be revisited..hard-nosed and a true warrior..he could address this aspect we lack since he was away..

Al Jeff would go a long way to solving a lot of our problems. He averages almost 3 ORB in his career and 6 DRB.He would be a tremendous inside force with our jumpshooters,KG,Bass, JJJ all would be great with Big Al.

With Wilcox as his backup, that's a formidable frontcourt, with lots of possible combinations for rotations.

Our rebounding dipped after Powe left, but at the same time, we were never a great ORB team even when Powe was here.

Clifford Ray left in 2010, right??  I know we were bad that last year, but maybe the loss of one of the greatest rebounding coaches is the key.

I'd have loved to have had Ray working with 3J and Stiemer all year.

Those stats also support why Perkins was expendable and traded - you don't pay some one $10 mil for defense alone.
