Scary thing about rondo is that he is second tier star and would most likely attract second stirring stars like Josh smith or Rudy gay. Those teams would be fun but not enough talent/substance.
Pierce, Allen, and KG were all 1st tier guys with a lot more cache than I think rondo has
I tend to agree.
To be fair, though, pretty much the only way to get a tier 1 star in this league is to draft one, or else trade high-potential assets (lottery picks or players) for one about to leave his team.
Such stars almost never reach free agency (especially after The Decision), and when they do, they go to big markets / warm weather cities.
It's possible, as the Celtics demonstrated in the summer of 07, to trade for Tier 1 stars by trading second tier assets (e.g. 5th pick, Al Jefferson), but probably only if they're on the tail end of their prime, as Allen and Garnett were.
