This one is pretty funny and Simmons does preface it with saying he is trying the counter jinx to save the season.

He also does his usual contradicting himself in the same article thing, like making fun of Danny for admitting everyone can be traded, but then coming up with scenarios to trade away the entire roster a few paragraphs later.

Still pretty entertaining though.

Simmons in that article: DeAndre Jordan: "I was supposed to be a lottery pick and fell 20 spots. If anyone was going to take a flier on me, it should have been Boston. I could have learned from KG and become another Perkins. When Danny passed me up for a selfish 24-year-old gunner who had just spent six years in college and wouldn't have a relevant NBA moment, it was something of a wake-up call. Four years later, I'm starting on a contender, I'm third in the league in blocks, and I'm making $10 million a year. Danny, thanks for passing on me even though it was the easiest sleeper pick in the world!"

Such an obvious pick, Bill.  Here's what you said in your 2008 running draft diary: By the way, I'm torn on DeAndre Jordan for the Celtics at No. 30 -- a lottery talent with no heart at all, but someone who might be redeemed by going to Kevin Garnett College and getting a double major in woofing and chest-pounding. He's like the gift nobody wants to end up with in a $25 Yankee Christmas swap: A potential keeper until you realize you also have to pay for $20 worth of batteries to make the gift work, so you're better off just passing it to someone else. Did that even make sense? I feel like that made sense. I need to wrap this up soon.

7:20: Detroit spruces up its D-League team with D.J. White at No. 29. He could end up being the Mel Daniels of the D-League before everything's said and done. Please, Lord, let the Celtics take Chalmers or Douglas-Roberts to finish off the luckiest year in Celtics history. Please.

might have been my least favorite article of his in a long time - just wasn't funny to me

Burned. Nice job. TP. You should email that to him, but I suppose he'll be too busy running Clippers highlights to bother reading it.

Simmons tuned out of the Celtics a long time ago. Know how I know? He called Dooling a free-agent signing.

He kind of goes over the top, but I thought it was pretty good. This team is going nowhere and he's spot on with several of his pot shots.

Ainge's moves have concerned me the last four years.  I discuss that when I look at every move he made here:

http://forums.celticsblog.com/index.php?topic=53050

But for him to discuss Ainge like he's Dan Issel or Isiah Thomas? Is he serious? I love how also cracks on Ainge's 'busts.'  Danny has drafted one bust = Giddens.  Yes, that sucked.  But then he goes on with Bradley, Johnson, and Moore? Is he serious?! Bradley was a good pick, that draft was absolutely hideous.  The guy I wanted Bledsoe - sucks.  Johnson hasn't look bad.  I'm sorry he hasn't looked like Karl Malone right away.  And for all the talk about Marshon Brooks = 15 PER.  I like Brooks a lot, and I think that could hurt us, but if Johnson turns into anything - you always go with the guy with size.  And Etwaun Moore?? He brings that up?!  Bill, Moore was the 55th pick in the draft.  I'm sorry Danny didn't come away with John Stockton there.

LOL, his Clippers gave away the rights to Kyrie Irving.  Oh but the Clips are contenders! Yeah...after 33 years of suckage.  We just spent the last 5 years contending.  We knew this day would come. I love all the rats jumping off this ship now.  If we ever rebuild the team, don't let them back on.

Also funny that he cries about Dooling and Wilcox.  They're making a combined 5M...for one year.  And Wilcox at 2.5M? That's a very nice signing.  Guy has a 13 PER.

We *traded* for Dooling, and got a protected 2nd round pick with it.

Oh, and he also called Rasheed Wallace's contract 'cap-killing'

I could go on and on.

Wow. That is a brutal article lol. There are funny parts, but man that's rough.

I did laugh pretty hard when I red this below.

I agree with part of the article's premise; most of Danny's moved haven't panned out recently.

Thing is, they were all pretty low-risk moves.  Danny set out to maximize the time that this team's core could contend.  That means veteran players, and the guys we realistically could acquire all had warts.

But, now we're in a very good position going forward.  We got five years out of a three year experiment, and now we'll get to start over essentially with a clean slate this summer.  We've got cap space, multiple picks, and are starting to see some decent young players develop.

So, Danny's made a bunch of moves that haven't really work out...   but he also hasn't really Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.ed up too bad, either.

  • Rondo = Good
So much win.

Quote
Presti: "If you want to improve this year's team, turn your expiring contracts — KG, Ray, Chris, Keyon and Jermaine — into better players and don't worry about cap space. For instance, let's say you offered KG's expiring contract to Dallas for Shawn Marion and Lamar Odom3 — Cuban might jump at that because he's desperately trying to clear money for Dwight and Deron this summer. He needs to dump Marion's deal to do it. That's why you see him on Twitter pimping Marion to boost his trade value — it's comical. Turn KG into Odom and Marion and you're better right away — Marion is still one of the league's best defensive players. Plus, you'd save about $4 million in tax money."

[Cut to Grousbeck, Pallotta and Pagliuca happily nudging each other.]

Presti: "Next up, Rondo — I know he's fun to watch, but you can't build around someone that moody and unreliable, especially when any smart defense plays six feet off him in close games. That's why I shot down your 197 different Westbrook/Rondo offers, buddy.

Quote
Ainge: "Thanks, Tommy. For the record, I just wanted to point out that getting Ray and Big Baby for Delonte and the no. 5 pick was a good trade. I haven't heard that mentioned tonight. Same for trading for Rondo's rights in 2006, or turning Baby into Brandon Bass this winter. I'm also proud that we extended Rondo for $55 million, below his market value, and that we locked up Doc Rivers for five years, right?"

[Danny looks out to the crowd for approval; he's greeted by silence.]

Ainge: "As for my draft record, I just want to say that I'm pleased with the potential that E'Twaun, Avery and JaJuan have shown. [More silence.] Look, I couldn't be THAT bad. We won the NBA title in 2008. We came within a break or two of winning Game 7 in Los Angeles in 2010. We're going to be $24 million under the cap this summer, with two first-round picks to boot. Ladies and gentlemen, I need you to believe in me. Do you believe in me?"

Fair points on both sides.

You think Odom/Marion improves this team over KG?

In fairness to Simmons, the C's would have been a lot better off these past couple of years if they had taken Chalmers (nailing down backup PG spot) or even CDR (better backup wing than Marquis, and less injury prone).
