What does everyone think of my decision and moves to build for two years from now?  I still might swing Carter and Davis, but for now, I turned Chris Andersen(33) + Mo Williams(29) + Shawn Marion(33) + Gustavo Ayon(26) into Patrick Peterson(22) + Ryan Anderson(23) + Baron Davis(33) + Ivan Johnson(27).

I really like the new direction of your team but to be honest I was surprised you were so willing to let go of Ayon. It remains to be seen if this season is a fluke so far but he's been phenomenal in his first year in the league.

Yeah, that might come back to bite me.  The fact that he is almost 27 years old (26 years, 328 days according to basketball reference) and only plays 18 minutes a game for the Hornets made me a little more willing to part with him, though.

Yeah, almost the same exact sentence could be used for Tiago Splitter, though. Those international guys just get a late start. But that's a fair point.

Brandon Jennings (35) / JJ Barea (13)
Paul George (35) / Mickael Pietrus (8 ) / JJ Barea (5)
Wilson Chandler (35) / Daquan Cook (13)
Derrick Williams (30) / Charlie Villanueva (10) / Mickael Pierus (8 )
Tyson Chandler (30) / Bismack Biyombo (18 )

DNP: Arenas, JaJuan Johnson

Biyombo would drop 10 minutes a game when Kwame returns.
Pietrus only plays the 4 when Chandler's in.

Why not bench CV, and give all the remaining minutes (Pietrus' too) to JJJ?

I like what Villanueva does for my team as far as stretching the floor, I'm not really sure JJJ is ready for regular meaningful minutes, and I don't like the idea of two rookies in the front court at any point.

I see your point. I think theswitch has some good insights there too (although I do think that Biyombo can play center).

I think with the skillset of my centers, Biyombo has to play center. I don't want him to play alongside Tyson Chandler or Kwame Brown. I bumped Pietrus' numbers down to 8 minutes, which I think would work fine against most lineups. Obviously, I wouldn't have him play there against elite bigs, but off the bench I think the size/speed we gain by playing small outweighs the liability of him giving up size against PF

Splitter is much less of a gamble (two years under his belt, is playing for the Spurs, plays 2 more minutes a game), but I'm certainly not saying I liked giving up Avon; it was a steal when I grabbed him with my second 6th round pick.

The exact same sentence should be used for Splitter, and Scola.

The problem with Ayon (and Splitter, and Scola) is that they're in their prime right now. But, they're not used to the NBA game. Also, the NBA game is not used to defending them (there aren't reels upon reels of tape, and years of in-game experience playing against them) when they first get in.

My point is that you get some weird results. Ilyasova when he came back from Europe was very good for the bucks for a year. What happened? The NBA figured him out before he figured them out. He's just now coming around.

And, they (the Splitters, Scolas, Ayons) likely aren't ever going to get much better. Just craftier, and that goes both ways, as the NBA will figure out how to defend them, especially if they play for a contender.

** I left New Orleans Hornets out due to injuries. They ranked 5th otherwise.

** I am very uncertain about what to do with Atlanta. I rate a lot of their individual pieces highly but I am concerned about how well they will fit together. Open to putting them in the playoffs as a bottom two seed. Not sure though.
One thing wrong here...Boston being so highly ranked.

Luv you amigo but I can't see how the locker room and chemistry work.

Artest, Delonte, Tyrus Thomas and basketball Ebola Allen Iverson all coming off the bench? Add to that Varejao and West's injuries having them out until April and I don't see a seed higher than 8th for them.

I don't know Edgar. I don't think a team splitting 96 front court minutes between KG, Tyrus Thomas and Shelden Williams for the next month can be too unhappy with the fourth seed.

Portland is out entirely.

I honestly don't think this Celtics team is a championship contender.  Pierce and Garnett are both great, but the current Celtics are showing that might not be enough.  Besides the two, Felton is a huge downgrade from Rondo, Thomas has been absolutely atrocious this year and about average in his career, Jackson is a sizeable downgrade from Allen, and while Varejao is a huge upgrade over O'Neal and the bench is propably slightly better even with Thomas, I just don't see this team as a real contender.
