Greg Oden has suffered yet another setback with his troublesome knees.

The often-injured 7-foot center was undergoing a minor procedure Monday to clear out debris in his left knee in Vail, Colo., when the surgeon determined there was additional damage and performed microfracture surgery, the Portland Trail Blazers said.

The former No.1 pick in the 2007 NBA draft has now had two microfracture surgeries on his left knee, and one on his right. He has also undergone surgery for a fractured left kneecap.

Pretty safe to say at this point that his NBA career is over?

I know zero about these kinds of procedures...is it possible that he could STILL come back from this?

He's only 24, right?

He could, but the odds are incredibly bad for him at this point. Even if he does come back he'll likely just be a big body rather than a franchise level center that his limited playing time when healthy indicated he could have been.

I was shocked to see him a couple of years ago, prior to the season...the man looked like he had packed on 300+ pounds on his frame.

This was right before he started having his slew of injuries...I wonder if this extra weight caused some issues with his skeletal structure?

Of course this doesn't explain how Shaq was able to do some of the things that he did weighing 300+ pounds...Shaq was simply incredible - even to be playing with us.

Hang in there, Oden. I guess that's all he can do. I guess if he were older I'd pack it in, but he's still so young.

Five years from now, he'll probably have one healthy season coming off the bench and providing a team with what Bill Walton gave the Celtics.

I think in the history of time players have come back from two microfracture surgeries, but never 3.  I think.

Plus he's had tons of other stuff. I'm pretty sure he's the most injured player in the history of the league. I wonder how much money he made.

I think Bill Simmons may have been right when he suggested the possibility that Oden (or maybe it was Lebron) just reenrolled in high school all over again.

I feel bad for this kid.
So much talent.
He should prob just retire and call it a career (I know..)
He will likely bust his knee once again if he returns.
Jack of all trades, master of none.

What a letdown the '07 lottery was. It was a blessing in disguise though.

I would think his career is done. I almost(he's made millions already) feel sorry for him his body seems to be as old as he looks. There's no doubt in my mind he would've been a top center had he stayed healthy.

Dwight is very fortunate.

Yao Ming and Greg Oden let him off the hook big time.

Yao was man-handling Dwight just a few years ago. I remember viewing some clips where Oden was picking Bynum and Gasol apart, too.

No more centers....just sad.

Are you serious?   This is exactly the kind of broken guy we need to avoid.   We've tried playing that card the last few years and a broken guy has not played well for us since Walton in 86.

  • Rondo = Good
He says he's not going to retire, but I don't see how he could ever play in the NBA after 3 micro-fracture surgeries.
