  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.

Lets Jazz clear cap space.
We probably have to throw in a first rounder as well.
I think they might take this now and clear the cap space with a free pick, rather than let him walk next year?

Big Al is a free agent in 2014, so we have him for next year.
Could also possibly use him in a trade if needed.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Another Jefferson trade idea?  We wouldn't get Jefferson for "that package".  The Jazz still look at Big Al has having value and you're giving them nothing other than cap relief and since he's only got another year left after this year on his contract he becomes even more valuable from a salary standpoint next year.

Without being in the know, I would be very surprised to see Utah not trading Jefferson at this deadline. They have three (!) very capable and/or promising prospects for their 4 and 5 spot, and given how Jefferson has previously been attempted (rumored) to be shopped in Utah, I am sure they are not putting a lot of eggs in his basket.

If the Celtics could provide with instant cash relief and the highest of whatever 1st round pick this season, I'm rather confident they could get a deal done. Remember, Jefferson has been plagued by injury, so Utah would run a rather significant risk by using him, over say Favors, Kanter or Millsap.

Big Al is way, way too good for the Jazz to trade him just to clear cap space.

I agree with you completely from a "basketball perspective", here and now - But, if the Jazz are thinking for the future (which I think they are), they should definitely take the highest draft pick available. He is not a long time fit for that team!

He's only signed through next year so there is no long term being considered by the Jazz... If the Jazz would keep him and trade him next year during the last year of his contract then his contract becomes an asset for some other team at the deadline...

They traded 2 first round picks and cap space for him. Now they trade him for cap space - not even immediate cap room but expiring contracts? And 3 players, that would force them to cut players from their roster?

They can get a better offer than this if they want to dump Al Jefferson.

I can't think of a good reason for why Utah would absolutely have to trade him by the deadline.  Why can't they wait until the off-season?  That might make more sense when there will be several teams with cap space or that can clear cap space to have unbalanced salaries in a trade.
