and can someone explain to me this obsession with blowing $20million Deron Williams?? for the price, I really dont see an upgrade from Rondo...plus hes shooting 43% compared to rondos 55%

you could use that extra $10million to sign a real nice player

While this is true, he is a better outside threat and usually is a better free throw shooter than Rondo. Rondo is the better pure passer however. I think one thing to look at is how can we replace Ray's shooting (we can't fully) so you get the better shooter out of the two. Its close overall between them, and I wouldn't be mad to keep Rondo with Howard either. You would just need to find that 2nd scoring option somewhere.

I'd be happy if we offer big contracts to javale mcgee and eric gordon. Other possible free agents I like are Batum, Mayo and gerald wallace. I'd love to take a flier on Greg Oden.

If we continue to play like  we are now we could have a lottery pick. Thomas robinson is probably out of our range but I would love to get patrick young, then grab austin rivers with the clippers pick.

I'm not saying this team is a contender but it wil be fun to watch and a young team that can grow with rondo.

5- Mcgee
4- Robinson/Young
3- Batum
2- Gordon
1-Rondo

That's assuming all of the big three are traded or retire, after the year. Batum could be replaced by Green, or Wallace , Gordon could be replaced by Mayo. This is a team I would love to watch grow.

Batum is a really nice player that if all else fails I would love to see Boston make a play for. Hes not a max player by any means but if you can get him for a reasonable price then make it happen.

I was thinking that maybe San Antonio would be interested in advancing a bit further in the playoffs and having another legit threat to their team. Sorry, if this or something like it has ever been mentioned before, but what about a trade like this:

Pierce for R. Jefferson/Kawhi Leonard/2012 1st round pick.

No doubt their pick would be in the mid twenties at best, but we'd have three 1st rounders this year. We do take on a contract that is a year longer with Jefferson's, but the Spurs get to compete again for the next couple of years while we go into our rebuilding mode with the likes of Leonard and the pick as  pieces to move forward with.

We're not going to sign any free agent for a reasonable price unless we can convince dwight to sign with us first. No one wants to come to Boston to a team that has rondo and not much else, unless we have the highest dollar offer of any team.

I really disagree with that statement, Celtics could offer Batum more playing time than he has in Portland. But saying the Celtics will not sign any free agents without overpaying is baseless. Rondo is still a star player and despite what people here believe there are worse situations than what the Celtics are currently in.

It's not baseless it's based on the fact that the celtics really haven't had a big time impact free agent signing, ever.  Most of the good free agents are restricted so if we want to sign them it needs to be for more than their original team is willing to pay. So we would in fact have to overpay for all the guys I listed.

Who owned the team the last time it wasn't bogged down with a few contracts? Gaston made Donald Sterling look like Mark Cuban. That is why its baseless. Yes, a lot of free agents are restricted and yes you need to obviously put in a bid that will make their existing team think twice about matching it. For example, why is it a sure thing that Boston doesn't offer Batum 8-10 million a year? Why is it a sure thing that Portland matches that. The Knicks didn't match David Lee when Golden State put up a pretty reasonable offer. We don't have a big sample size in the whole "free agents hate Boston" argument. When Boston had the money to sign a big free agent the last go around the team was owned by the worst owner in the history of modern Boston sports (even worse than Jacobs).

Which is why I want to go after Ryan Anderson, who I think is worth $10-12m/year.  Otis Smith is nuts, so he could either under-value Anderson and refuse to match or over-pay Anderson with the maximum.  Or he could finally be fired and Ainge can swoop in and grab Anderson while the Orlando front office is in disarray.

if we were to go after him right away before the dwight situation resolves itself at the onset of the offseason. If we can bring in a bunch of athletic guys to run he would be a good compliment.
