Very funny parody of the media's hypocritical coverage of Jeremy Lin.

ESPN had "Chink in Armor" headline after the Knicks lost to the Hornets. Got to love the media.

Edit: My mistake it was "Chink in the Armor".

Yes, that was hilarious.  Very accurate as well.

It does seem to me that as Americans we are more forgiving of racially insensitive remarks towards foreigners or peolple of foreign descent.  Whereas with blacks, women, or homosexuals we consider them "one of us", so we treat any degoratory remarks towards people of these groups more harshly.  I would guess its partly because people of such foreign descent are still primarily viewed as "outsiders", and therefore we aren't really as concerned with their feelings in a somewhat subconsious manner.

Well, as I said in another thread, I think motivation is key.  If it was intentional, the yes, that is terrible.  If it was accidental (the saying in and of itself is not rascist, and fairly normal), then I am not that bothered by it.  Sure, if it was just an innocent mistake, I would still say better judgement may have been in order. But only because as a media outlet, it is bad for business if a specific group might possibly be offended (rightly or not).

ESPN also used "Chink in the armor" for the USA basketball team at the Beijing olympics.  No one gave a crap then...

But yea, the SNL skit was spot on.

I don't think it's so much a "one of us" mentality as it is a result of the fact that we as a society have had movement centered around expressing condemnation of those who are intolerant towards those groups.  Intolerance towards those groups has been widespread in the past, until there were widespread calls for that behavior to stop.
