NY Knicks surge with Lin could drop us to 8th playoff spot. That's if we can keep up our current pace and no serious injuries arise.

its very likely, the rate things are going with the celts, we just might barely make it, or not...

I think that, barring injuries, we're close to a lock to get somewhere in the 3rd-8th seed range. There's 40 games left, a lot can happen to 3-4 game leads in that time.

It's funny I read all these threads about IND or PHI or ATL not being able to keep it up.  Yet they've all been playing winning ball since the season tipped off.  And here we are near the halfway mark, fighting to get over .500 and now barely being able to hold on to it.  What have we shown to prove we're any better than 7-8?

The Knicks are going to be adding Melo, JR Smith, and maybe Baron will come back some day.

We have also played 19 home games vs only 10 on the road thus far, so our catchup will have to be done away from TD Garden.

From March 7-23rd, we play 9 out of 10 games on road with a tough set of opponents including lakers, clippers, nuggets, hawks and Phi 2 times. It is hard for me to see silver lining in that trip. I would expect 500 play rest of way if we do not get major injuries. I am not happy with prospect of 8th seed either.

Our schedule so far has been very favorable and we are in 7th position. I have run out of excuses and just don't see how we could make a serious run of more than 1 series in the playoffs.

Danny needs to be careful though and not ruin our chance at rebuilding in next 2 years. Please Danny dont bog us down with some Vin Baker albatross

thats fine....We tried to get CP3 and rebuild ....luck wasn't with us.

So you can call it "BLOW UP" or IMPLOSION , or just plain lacking youth and talent, but we're headed to the bottom

If people don't want DA to start now , then we'll have start wether you like it or not at the end of the season.

ONE WAY OR THE OTHER ...   I'm forseeing nice drafting for the Celtics.  An overhaul is on the way.

Spot on.

This idea that the other teams are going to fall back to earth and the Celtics are going to reclaim their place in the hierarchy is silly.  You are who you are at this point in the season, and the C's are a team that's going to hover around .500 -- which means a 7th or 8th seed.

Yikes. If I'm a Knicks fan this list does not make me optimistic.

I'm less worried about the 8th seed than missing the playoffs entirely.  Yeah, it's hard to imagine dropping below Milwaukee or Cleveland but the next month and a half is going to be absolutely brutal for a team that has struggled so far with age and consistency.

I mean, it would be one thing for this team to be playing hard and losing to good teams.  That's how you normally see a veteran team go down.  But this team has lost to those good teams AND has lost to 5 sub .400 clubs already this year.  Turn those 5 losses to crappy teams into wins and Boston is 20-9 and right there with Dallas record-wise.

That's what is frustrating.  Not that they lose fairly close games to Chicago or at the buzzer to the Lakers.  It's that they're getting spanked by teams they should still be better than.

Are you kidding?  Knicks fans are unendingly and rabidly optimistic about their players.  They always seem to think the Knicks are great.

Yeah, they are nuts.

Anyway, do you think we can trade Avery Bradley for Jeremy Lin?

NY is definitely playing better ball since Lin became the starting PG.  Adding J.R. Smith looks like it will be a plus move as well.  And once Melo returns, they will absolutely have a dangerous lineup.  I can definitely see NY moving up in the standings.

The thing is though, they still don't play very much defense.  Smith and Melo have never been known as great defenders, niether has Amare and Lin doesn't look like much of a defender either.  The other things is, there is only one ball for all the options they have on offense.  Will it work?  Probably yes, but it isn't garaunteed.

NY is a dangerous team, but they have a ways to go still.

The Knicks are crazy talented. If Carmelo comes in and just plays good basketball they are going to be extremely dangerous come the play-offs. Thank God they don't have Rondo :o.

I watched them play for a quarter today against the Mavs.  Lin looks like a solid PG but if I ever saw the C's play the way the Knicks do, on offense or on defense, I would throw up in my mouth.

They basically have 35 games to put together a championship contender, I think it's a long shot to do it this year.  New PG, new SG, PF and SF who are the stars, have missed significant time.  If that group stays together next year, it's going to be a very fun team to watch, but at the end of the day it's still a D'Antoni coached team.  Run and gun, chuck a 3, don't play defense.

Not worried about NY. Once Melo comes back they'll go back to sucking
