Simple question.  If you were building a team that can run around Rajon Rondo, what centers out there, free agent or not, available or not, young or not, fit with the concept?  Let's add two constraints.  One, the center has to have the length, height, or defensive skills so that you don't cringe if the Celtics play against a big, quality center with a strong post-up game.  (I think that eliminated Chris Wilcox.)  Two, the center has to have sufficient intelligence that you don't doubt his ability to understand the offensive and defensive playbook of Doc Rivers.  (I think that eliminates Javale McGee.)

So, who fits that criteria?  Who are bad fits?  (Other than Jermaine O'Neal.  There are other threads if you need to criticize him.)

Dwight Howard fits the criteria.

I think pretty much all of the top centers would work just fine.  There aren't really any Shaq or Sabonis types in the league anymore (big, lumbering, bruising).

I really think JaVale McGee from washington would be a great fit w rondo - he's a catch and finish guy I think - could catch lobs like KG used to - and I think that's exactly what would go well w rondo. He could run too.  Rondo doesn't need/ want a classic post up offense type center since that would be more halfcourt oriented - that would just continue to expose his lack of a jumper when the center's doubled. He just needs someone athletic to catch and finish and run.
McGee I think is a free agent and would be a nice consolation prize if DH isn't interested in coming here.
I also like the idea that if we got McGee we wouldn't have to run offense through him. I think with DH you'd feel like you have to get him several post touches per game, when his post up game's not really his best weapon.

Well, Gasol is the best big in the game right now, so I'd have to go with him.

I think Kaman's touch around the hoop would be good.  Not sure about Dalembert's hands...  Lopez?  Camby and Chandler for sure.  Birdman can run.  Diop?

Not many.

Gortat.

He gobbles up defensive rebounds to start the fast break.

He finishes when he runs the floor.

Decent on pick and pops/rolls.

Uh . . . which one?  I don't really think either one is close to the best big man in the game . . . though both are very good.

A lot of the top centers are obvious, so I'm really more interested in names of guys who could be described as role players who fit into the Celtics defense schemes.

Chris Wilcox.

Yeah, Rondo made him look like a legit starter. Rondo got good.

Marcin Gortat stands out for me in that sense, then.

Anderson Varejao, too.

Deandre Jordan is a role player, in my opinion.

Andris Biedrins would fit well on the team, I think.

Emeka Okafor.

Tiago Splitter.

Ian Mahinmi -- highlight here because he's a UFA this summer.

You know who I'd like to see in green for cheap? Robin Lopez. Seems like a nice guy.
