Kevin Love and Nikola Pekovic each had 30+ points and 10+ rebounds against the Houston Rockets tonight.

Both players have been killing it lately for the T-Wolves.

I think it's time to consider that the T-Wolves might have one of the best frontcourts in the league, especially with Rubio feeding them.

Pekovic is turning out to be pretty good, but he's not an elite shot blocker (which is what I think Love needs to be paired with to have a truly dominant front court)

As much as I hate to say it, the best frontcourt in basketball, by a wide margin, is Gasol/Bynum. And trust me, it's not even close.

I don't know LeBron and Bosh is not chopped liver and I hate those guys.   Frontcourts include SF PF and C.

what they have shown tonight is a formidable performance, solid at that, but hey, they were against the houston rockets, they were expected to dominate..

They have been doing this pretty much every game for the last three weeks or so.  Not quite to this level, but still essentially 20/10 from each of them every game.

In February Pekovic is averaging 18.4p, 10.7r, 1.2b, 1.1s, .6a while Love in February is averaging 26.5p, 16r, .6b, .5s, 2.3a
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Strangely enough, we originally had the pick that was used to select Pekovic.  We'd gotten it from Miami in the Antoine Walker sign-and-trade.

We then sent it to Minnesota in the Blount/Wally trade; we sent out a #2, and they sent out a protected #1.  As we all know, that "#1" was sent out in the KG trade, although it never actually vested into a #1 (instead turning into a #2 of its own.)

Who knew at the time that the Twolves were getting the better of that pick exchange?

Interesting that Love's rebounding numbers are not down with Pekovic in the lineup. I guess Darko wasn't inflating his numbers after all...

Reminds a little bit of Randolph-Gasol.

The Wolves desperately need better offensive contributions at the wing though.  The pathetic offensive displays of Johnson, Ellington and Webster (and Beasley/Williams when they're on the wing) have pushed them into starting Ridnour alongside Rubio for some offensive quality.

2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

Yeah, I think the Wolves are a productive wing defender and a solid perimeter scorer away from being a very solid team (with the potential to be very good).

Same here, but darn it can't play him until MON (missed out on the big game vs HOU).

The question I have about Pekovic is why can't we ever seem to get in on foreign guys like that?  It seems like a number of teams are selecting foreign big men late in the first round or early in the 2nd and are finding a lot of value with those picks (mainly I'm thinking of Splitter and Pekovic -- but other candidates are Ilyasova, Mirotic, Motiejunas).

I don't get the sense that Danny spends a lot of time looking at prospects overseas.  Semih Erden, I think, was kind of a shot in the dark with the very last pick in the draft.

It seems the Celtics haven't any legitimate project bigs for quite a while, foreign or American maybe since Kendrick Perkins was drafted.  Maybe due to being in title mode where we just sign vet bigs.  I've been interested in Pekovic since a couple years ago when he torched the Celtics in a game.  Followed his up and down box scores since then.  I guess he didn't blow up until right now.

Interesting to see if there's a change in this trend relating to the degree of our rebuilding....

One of the best 4/5 combinations in the league. That guy Pekovic is a monster! If they can get a lights out shooter in the 2/3 position, they could duplicate the Grizzlies success. They also have a very good coach. They are certainly going in the right direction.
