That's my plan of the day. Targets would be guys like Thaddeus Young or Marvin Williams, packaged with expiring deal(s).

Pierce => $8M player gives you a solid starter + $9M cap room
Bradley saves you another $1.6M

Consolidate 1st rounders to move up, save let's say $2M.

Now our cap space goes from $25M to $37M (roughly). That's enough to sign two max players and not be completely tapped out. You have two targets:

Eric Gordon, Dwight Howard, keep Rondo.
Deron Williams, Dwight Howard, move Rondo.

Example:

Rondo
Gordon
1st round pick
Thad. Young / J. Johnson
Howard

Rondo, Gordon, Thad. Young and Jujuan Johnson seems like a young core around Howard to me...

  • Rondo = Good
Philly trading Young for Pierce doesn't make that much sense, though, because they're set at SF (Iggy / Turner), whereas Young plays a good deal of PF.

But this is the sort of deal that perhaps could happen.

Yeah, true. The other player I found in that range was Marvin Williams (plus Hinrich expiring), but I'm not a big fan of him as a starter.

Maybe if you expand a Sixers deal to include Turner?

Young, Nocioni, Turner
FOR
Pierce, Bass, 1st rounder?

Not sure what to make of Turner's value, he's been a bit of a bust so far but might be worth swapping for the Clippers pick if it were part of a master plan...

To Sactown for John Salmons and a pick? They have cap room and need to add more salary. I wouldn't but if they wanna give up their 2012 1st this might be a different story...

We also can just amnesty Salmons when he gets here. Immediate salary shed.

wouldn't you have to find another willing team able to take on an extra $10 million and isn't that rather hard, especially for an older guy?

You can't amnesty a player unless he was on your roster before the new CBA was put in place, so no amnestying a player you traded for after the new CBA.

What about Stephen Jackson? Bucks would probably be glad to get rid of him and need a veteran scorer.

The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.
