I've never been more frustrated with a player before. JO is washed up and is officially hurting the team. He can't do anything anymore. And he seems determined to prove that he still has it, but that's hurting the team. I'm seeing brick after brick, missed rebound after missed rebound, foul after foul - it's ridiculous. Time to retire, JO.

Is his defense nobody on the team is rebounding really well.

he's a 4th string center at the most and he's stuck starting for us by default.

Ideally we would have had KG playing center with David West at PF and Krstik/Bass backing them up.  West thing fell through... Krstik is stuck overseas... suddenly JO gets starters minutes.

We just don't have enough this year as far as talent and the clock is about to strike midnight... KG and Ray are about to become pumpkins and this Celtic team is going back to the dark ages.  Something drastic needs to happen YESTERDAY or we're going to be stuck with nothing and Long... LONG rebuild around a flawed fringe allstar (Rondo).

I know someone has to be the scapegoat but it isn't just JO the reason for our poor play.

Correct, but the fact that he is the starting center on this team or any NBA team is a complete joke.

It's not like he's the worst starting center in the NBA.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Unfortunately we can't put anyone else in that will play defense like JO.
He has almost zero offense but his defense is so much better than any of our other bigs that Doc has no choice.

He does a great job on defense- today and vs Detroit he got called for some ticky fouls that could have gone either way- but he still alters so many shots with his length.
Think about how many time he steps up and defensively attacks other bigs mid air like Boozer and Noah. He doesn't get a block on his stats but he saves so many points under the basket- in the same vein as Kendrick Perkins.
Think about how many charges he takes. I think he took 3 or 4 today and 3 vs Detroit?
Yes he sucks offensively and he has zero lift but we just don't have any other options.
You can hate him but at least give him credit for his defensive toughness, he still tries his hardest and competes with his limited athleticism and lift, and that's all we can ask for at this stage. Hopefully we can get Kaman or some combo trade going- if not, we better pray that Bass or Wilcox learn our defensive rotations come playoff time and then JO can be what he was intended to be, the back up center.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

Read that last line again. One more time.

What about KG getting abused time and again by Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer? Wilcox is not much better against these behemoths. Let Jermaine O'Neal play out his time here and then replace him in the offseason (with Semih Erden). Krstic leaving the NBA boned us badly.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

If he's out there, what would you prefer? Not going for the rebound? Not playing defense? The guy is cooked, but at least he's trying. You can't blame a guy for father time taking over. But yes, he needs to play less.

here is the whole league depth chart. I give you DeSaga Diop and Kurt Thomas. Beyond that you need to get picky or creative

Well, I never said he was an above-average starting center.  He'd probably be above average if he were cast as a backup.  I think his abilities are such that he'd be perfectly acceptable next season playing minutes similar to Jeff Foster or Ben Wallace on a small contract and I would welcome him returning on that basis.

Starting or not, he is still capable of being a performer worthy of 20-ish minutes per game, which is what he is getting.  It would be nice to get an upgrade at center, but at the same time, anyone who says Jermaine O'Neal is so cooked that he needs to be out of the NBA is flat-out wrong.

JO is cooked and needs to be out of the NBA.

And I say that for his sake, not ours. His injuries are becoming more frequent with time and it's in his best interest to be able to walk at the age of 45-50.

Yikes.  It really is that bad.

Neither Diop nor Thomas really starts, either.

I find it strange that JO stands like statue for 25 minutes a game and Doc never says a word. JJ works and tries to make things happen and Doc gets in his grille. Then pulls him after 3 minutes. I think this is a good example of a bigger problem. Doc and his star mentality must go.

I'm not a big fan of Okur or Darko. Not really impressed with Anthony, at least he's a decent role player though.
