Could we get in on it and get some young players?

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=72k5t7m

Lakers get Pierce + Beasley + Ridnour + 1st rounder = 3 new starters
Celtics get D. Williams, Pekovic, Randolph = 3 young players
Minnesota gets Gasol, Bass = killer frontcourt w/ Love

Celtics can keep Williams + Pekovic next year and still have freed up an extra $7M in cap room for the summer, getting closer to "2 max" range.

Minnesota goes all in with Rubio, Gasol and Love - they gotta go for it now while Love is locked up. They drop their two knuckleheads (Beasley and Randolph).

Lakers upgrade at PG and SF and get a  bunch of offensive firepower for Gasol.

I would do that for all 3 teams, but LA would need to get Bass as they wouldn't have a PF.

Beasley, although he is a "tweener" he can really score when he plays the 4. I think he would work alongside Bynum... Ridnour / Bryant / Pierce / Beasley / Bynum would be incredibly hard to defend against.

But agreed, Bass could go to LA and it actually still works under the cap (note that LA is using their Odom exception to take Beasley).

I like it but weren't the Lakers rumored to want a PG.

If the C's ever traded Pierce to the Lakers, that would be the last day I follow the NBA.

Just like that.

Hello hockey.

Well I'm sure Ridnour isn't the guy they're looking for, but he is a noticeable upgrade over Fisher or Blake - he can actually dribble, hit a midrange shot, pass a little, and at least stay in the same timezone as quicker guards. I'd say he's a top-20 PG in the league at least, which is a leap from 2  guys who are more like top-50. He's also healthy and probably would be rejuvenated going from Rubio's shadow to LA...

I don't see Boston trading Pierce to LA (unless Pierce asks to be traded, and maybe not even then).  So, this is my scenario for how the Celtics would get in on a Gasol to Minny trade.

I see this as an off-season trade.  The Celtics receive a draft pick or two to use their cap space to absorb enough contracts for the next season so that Minnesota has enough cap space to acquire Pau Gasol and send the Lakers a trade exception.  This enables the Lakers to do a sign-and-trade for Dwight Howard.  The Lakers ship Andrew Bynum for a third player they can team with Howard and Bryant.  (To Houston for a package including Luis Scola and Goran Dragic?)
