They could, but they shouldn't.
Deron is not the same as Chauncey.. Idk, but to me, Rondo is a better point guard. It really iritates me that Deron is an all-star and Rondo is not. No logic at all there..
When you lose, the easy part is to see who gives up. Giving up is very simple. You basically take your stuff and walk away. To continue to work and to continue to compete is one of the most difficult things, especially when you really don't have anything - KG

I'm sure most pros can play together.  BUT I would like to see more of deron play with teammates before I would even think of him as a celtic.  Since the Sloan firing he hasn't done much to improve his reputation.

fair enough, but the reality is Dwight and Deron are the only two unrestricted free agents that could be centerpieces of a title team.  If you are Boston you have to pursue them both.  Using the cap space on lesser players just turns you into the Pistons.  If you can't sign Dwight or Deron, or trade for a top flight free agent, then Boston shouldn't use the cap space.  Period.

Rondo is Boston's best player so it got me to thinking, if Deron would come to Boston, could they play together or would Boston need to move Rondo to bring in Deron.  If Dwight doesn't come here (which I think is likely) then Deron is really the only other free agent worth looking at (at least of the unrestricted ones).

After all your posts about not being able to win titles with your best player being a point guard you post this? Too funny.

centerpiece doesn't necessarily mean best player.  It could, but doesn't have to be.  A centerpiece is a top 3 player, which could in fact be a PG (like Parker was with the Spurs as an example).  Rondo could be a centerpiece of a title team, just not its best player.  I think Rajon and Deron (with Pierce) is a great start to a title team, but that team clearly needs a top flight PF or C to win a title (or it is just the Kidd Nets teams - Kenyon Martin wasn't a good enough PF to win a title with).

Ah. Sorry about that, you seem to use the word quite a bit differently than some of the other posters.

Rondo is definitely not a better point guard than Deron.

they could probably, complement that is, each other, both are smart, with different court vision, rondo being a pass first pg while deron who can create his shots, more of my end-game kind of pg..considering rondo's achilles, being the 15ft line, deron stands a btter chance to capitalize, cspecially on close games..

No problem.  And I do think it would be incredibly difficult for a team to win a title with a PG as its best player (unless they are huge like Magic was).  That said I wouldn't be overly surprised if Paul and the Clippers do it (though Blake might be the best player when it happens) or if Rose ends up getting one with the Bulls at some point (that would be much more surprising to me though as I don't see Chicago getting by Miami anytime soon).
