And look out Chi and Mia , On paper NY will have the best starting 5 in the league IMO.

Eh, I can't really agree with this.

Lin / Smith / Melo / Amare / Chandler is certainly one of the better starting lineups, but it's still questionable defensively, and I'm fairly skeptical about how the pieces fit together on offense.  It's also worth noting that it's a group that hasn't played together in the playoffs before, and as we've seen in years past, continuity and chemistry play an enormous role in the playoffs.  That's where teams like the Lakers, Spurs, Mavs, Bulls, Heat etc will have a big advantage.

Yeah, if you could put Larry Bird's brain in each of their heads, that team would probably win 75 games per season.  The talent level of a Smith / Melo / Amare combo is tremendous.  Unfortunately, all three are flawed players, with Amare -- the guy who makes little effort on defense --  being my favorite of the bunch.

I'M THE SILVERBACK GORILLA IN THIS MOTHER... AND DON'T NONE OF YA'LL EVER FORGET IT!

Sabonis / Brand / A. Thompson / Oladipo / Brunson
Jordan / Bowen

Knicks good fortune continues. JR Smith+Shumpert make a nice one-two punch off the bench. JR provides the offense and Shumpert plays lockdown defense.

But can either of them play point guard or small forward?

Eh I think 5 Larry Birds on one team would get into a crazy bar fight that would result in 10 deaths, 3 bad mustaches, 1 illegimate child, and prison time for all of em.

Meh, their collectively bad back would probably stop them from killing each other.

during this 6 or 7 game stretch Shumpert ran the point for the bench guys. I think JR can also run the point. And Baron Davis is couple weeks away. Knicks are a formidable team.

Excellent signing. Reinforces that backup wing slot in a major way.

Hopefully this means an end to Bill Walker's minutes. That guy has been killing the Knicks ever since he joined them.

Good for us! Another shoot first, no D type player. The Knicks are only having success because they're playing together as a TEAM. Can't wait to see what happens once Anthony returns, and if Smith signs.

Now that I have thought about it a little bit longer, I think Smith should come in off the bench. I really like the chemistry between Lin and Fields, they seem to be really good friends. Plus Fields is a good defender and spot up shooter which fits better with Melo and Lin because he doesn't need the ball in his hands.

Then you can have Smith come in as 6th man when Melo needs a rest to pick up the scoring for the second unit .

I agree.  Smith the sixth man makes a lot more sense.  The starting lineup needs Fields's glue-guy abilities more than Smith's streaky scoring.  Also gives the Knicks more consistency.

Better question, perhaps, is what role does Shumpert play?  How about Toney Douglas?  One or both of them has to get buried a bit.  Bill Walker probably sees his playing time mostly disappear, too.

This is exactly it, and y'all beat me to it haha.

Lin and Fields have excellent chemistry, and with so much firepower on that team they need a guy like Fields to start as he's extremely unselfish and gives effort on defense, on the glass, and in transition.  After all, you need at least one guy who's willing to move the ball, right?

To answer your question a bit, Pos, it looks like Douglas is already getting phased out.  He racked up like 4 DNP-CD's in a row earlier this week and then got 6 minutes of burn in their blowout win over SAC.  It looks like they make of lost that kid, which is too bad, because he's still young and still has upside.  Might be an intruiging trade chip??

hahaha tp for that one

In totally unrelated news, the Knicks have petitioned the league to allow for 2 basketballs to be used at the same time on the court.

Really hope the bright lights of New York can give JR Smith the confidence he so desperately needs.

Do we really have a chance to contend though?  Danny might have his eye on a rebuild.
