There is no doubt Rondo's jumper is better than it was a few years ago. It is definitely good enough for him to shoot the open free throw line pull up if they back off him. I wouldn't go so far though as to proclaim him "having a J". Especially when the end result is still an "L".

He's inconsistently decent when he can shoot off the dribble but he can't spot up.

Kobe's the best at defending him because he doesn't give Rondo enough space to dribble and shoot but leaves him open enough so he has to shoot.

Everybody's still leaving him open.  It'll take at least a half or maybe a full season before teams are convinced he can shoot.  I'm not convinced yet.  We'll see how he shoots with a hand in his face.

He won't...right? The point is teams don't leave him open anymore.

everyone seems to state that, but how many players are necessarily shooting jumpers with a hand in their face?? how many of KG's jumpers are wide open? or rays 3's??...not that rondo is anywhere near their level.

but this idea that every player is draped with a guy all over him when shooting is innacurate...its clear Rondo has gotten much better though

Who cares if he can't hit a jumper with a hand in his face? As long as he gets to a point as a shooter where his man doesn't wander off, I think we're set. Nobody is looking for him to be Kobe.

Yeah, he's shooting better, but a guy shouldn't be in the NBA if he can't hit an open mid-range shot.  And of course teams are still letting him shoot.  They're going under screens.  They're playing off of him.  Guys like Ray bust their asses to get open.  KG gets open on the pick and pop, and because he roams out to the top of the key where his defender is not accustom to gaurding guys out there.  If Rondo starts to show he can knock down a 20-footer consistently, they're going to start playing him differently and he's going to get a lot less open looks.  He's going to have defenders staying closer to him and running at him.  Personally I think that would help the Celtics a ton.  I've said for a long time now about how that extra roaming defender (like Kobe does) hurts the team tremendously.

It's just one game.  The fact that teams let him take wide open shots means professional players and coaches don't believe he can do it consistently.

hes been hitting jumpers alot more this year, i think its going to take awhile of him hitting them before players have to play closeup on him...hes not great. but he has a serviceable jumper where he can make you pay.

  • It's all about the TEAM!
Its like watching him shoot free throws.

Sometimes he has a really good game or two.

For the millionth time, hes always been OK.  40% or above from 16-23ft 4 of the last 5 years (including this year).

10-15ft hes been up and down, but generally ok.

He's fallen apart in the 3-9ft range (work those floaters plz).

If you are going to hate on Rondo, hate on those FTs.

Kobe's the best at defending him because he doesn't give Rondo enough space to dribble and shoot but leaves him open enough so he has to shoot.

The Celts beat the Lakers once in the finals and almost beat them the other time they met. Rondo's had some pretty good games against them. The "Kobe defense" works at times, fails at other times.
