The Foot Locker 3PT shootout participants have been announced
http://www.nba.com/2012/allstar/2012/02/15/three-point-contest/index.html?ls=iref:nbahpt2
and the contestants are:

2012 FOOT LOCKER THREE-POINT CONTEST PARTICIPANTS
Player   Made-Att. ('11-12)   Pct.
Ryan Anderson, Orlando   80-190   .421
Mario Chalmers, Miami   57-123   .463
Joe Johnson, Atlanta   53-149   .356
James Jones, Miami   19-47   .404
Anthony Morrow, NJ   60-143   .420
Kevin Love, Minnesota   44-122   .361

I'm just wondering, why is Ray Allen not included here? I mean look at his stats:
GP   PPG   3PM   3PA   3PM   3PA   3P%
23    14.6    2.3    4.7    54    109    .495

Is there a rule that only those top shooters who attempted more than 120 3's are included?

And Since this may be Ray's last season, I think he should at least have been given consideration to participate!

This will DEFINITELY NOT be Ray's last year.

Have you seen the guy?

He will play for the next 3 years minimum.

Ray declined to participate.  He wanted the time off.

I remember reading that he said he wouldn't do it if he wasn't in the All Star Game. He wasn't gonna attend All Star Weekend just to do the 3 point contest.

And QFT. Walter Ray Allen is a family man. It happens when you have children.

And above all: We all know he'd kick their behinds if he partipated.

i am actually for this..i have been rooting for not any of our main pieces to be attending the "showboating" weekend...rest is more important than tiring yourself with this senseless charade of primadonnas, sadly, paul was a last-second inclusion..for ray, i have never doubted his sensible decision considering we are on a very compressed season..been there, done that so it seems for him..only shows he has higher purpose for declining, if indeed he was invited..

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
They would have offered him a spot and he probably just wanted to rest.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

This exactly.  If you recall last year he did't commit to the contest until after he was announced as a reserve.  Last season he was really a borderline AS selection until he caught fire in the JAN-FEB time frame.

They did offer him a spot and he declined.
