Krstić is better then JO, Wilcox and Greg. He's best player in best Euroleague team CSKA (with Kirilenko). Played great after trade, but Docs have different idea. I bet if Doc knew that Shaq wouldnt be ready Krstić would played much more...

Not to mention Troy Murphey!  Remember that OTHER 7 footer that was on our team last year?  And Troy is not overseas playing ball this year, instead he is playing ball for the LA Lakers, remember them?  A 7 footer that gets rebounds, Danny Ainge come on!
Apparently Troy Murphy is the poster boy for stealing rebounds. It seems putting him on the floor has historically hurt teams' ability to rebound.

Ha ha--a little Krstic love!

(And yes, just like the C's losing TA for lack of attention, I think Krstic could have been persuaded to only take an escapable contract had he been shown more love while he was here.)

He's not rebounding as well as he used to, but his rebounding rate isn't horrible.  He has regained his shot a bit and is currently hitting 40% of threes, so he is back to being a useful player.

Had still another one before Krstic.

A year ago, C's sent away the 3 yrs younger 7 footer Erden, along with another young player: 6-7 245 Harangoody.

Troy Murphy is listed as 6-11 245 31 yrs 9 months, in 24 games this year with LAL, is averaging 18 mpg, 3.5 ppg, 3.8 rpg and +6.38 eff.
Got 9 rebs against us the other night, in 24 min.

Semi was an injured rookie when Danny decided to add the proven Murphy and Krstic instead and Gody, unfortunately, hasn't shown much on either of his teams so far in his NBA career.

but doc kinda ruined it by giving this guy no playing time in the last  month of the season + playoff time.because he decide he just needed Jo and big baby @ back up center so i kinda don't blame krstic for not sticking around but we could sure use him @ the moment. decent rebounder good shooter green and krstic with this bench would've been nice to see
Before blaming Doc's use of Krstic in the playoffs for leaving let's look at some facts:

1. Nenad Krstic is Serbian.

2. He played 3 years in Serbia in the Euroleague before coming to America and playing for the Nets.

3.He played with the Nets for 4 years and after hurting himself in 2006 and taking a year off, he came back with a bad 2007-08 campaign. His offers not being what he wanted, he returned to the Euroleague to play in Russia.

4. He played a half season in Russia showing his skills had returned and then came back to the US to play for OKC on a three year contract

5. He was traded to Boston and when the league went into a lockout, one predicted to forfeit the entire 2011-12 season, Krstic once again return to Russia, for one of their best teams on a two year contract.

Those are facts. Indisputable. I think it more likely that being an Eastern European and having played parts of 4 seasons in Eastern Europe, that he enjoys being that close to home and enjoys the money and lifestyle it affords him to be back in that area. He returned to Europe once and with the threat of a possible lost season, he went back there again.

This is obviously a player with no sentimental desire to stay in the US playing in the NBA. Its something he wants but something keeps bringing him back home.

I seriously doubt that given these facts he decided to stay in Russia for two year because Doc didn't give him enough minutes. That seems like a fairly immature stance given he was an unrestricted free agent and could have just got an opt out clause in his contract and returned to the NBA and played with someone who promised him playing time, if that was his only concern.

Clearly lack of playing time wasn't this man's concern. Long term security during a lockout was otherwise he would have done what others did and what he did previously, he would have installed an NBA opt out clause in his contract and come back to the NBA after the lockout.

  • You say when......
Nothing we could do about nenad..but, doc could have played him more.....he was a european center though...outside shooter, not a rebounder....but, we have steamer....rebounds very well, shoots very well, plays D very well..and although he has yet to get a pass in the paint, he passes well, dunks, and doesn't turn it over...doc should play him, so the REFS get off his back...he would have helped vs the Lakers on bynum...besides, playing KG a center is dumb...very dumb...why...well, he HATES it..you think it is just coincidence he chooses to be a forward.....he is better at help D....forward frees him up from the tougher CENTER D...center is probably the toughest D spot, for obvious reasons, and, at kg's age, it takes away from his offense for the later part of the game...as we saw vs the lakers....steamer would have been perfect in there, body on bynum, maybe show bynum was in the paint for 5-8 seconds also..which doc could have pointed out also......it gets the ref looking...

Yes, let's look at facts.

Krstic averaged just over 21 minutes a game in March and finished the regular season in April logging 18, 18, 27, 12, 16 and 25 minutes.  In the playoffs, Krstic played 5, 3, 8 and 8 minutes against New York, then played 6 and 11 minutes in the first two Miami games, did not play at all the next two before finally logging 16 minutes in game 5's season ender.

Kristic went from a guy who played 21.5 minutes the previous playoffs when the Thunder played the Lakers as tough as anyone to averaging only 8 playoff minutes for a Celtic team that had only one other "healthy" center on the roster.

Do I think Krstic went back to Europe out of spite over Doc not playing him in the playoffs?  No, that's kind of silly.  I don't imagine being exiled to the bench in Boston helped when it came time to make that decision, though.

But can we all now agree that Doc sitting Krstic down in the playoffs was a bad decision that didn't make much sense at the time and is even more indefensible in hindsight?

Mike

...   I'm pretty sure there are some CelticsBlog posters who'd get nine rebounds playing against our frontcourt....

So you are agreeing that it is silly to think Krstic left for Europe because Doc didn't use him in the playoffs.

Then what's your point? That he should have played him more?

We pretty much slapped the Knicks around in the playoffs and no amount of Krstic getting minutes was going to help us beat Miami after Rondo went down, so who CARES if Doc did or did not play him more. It wouldn't have mattered.
