Obviously take it with a grain of salt, but some of the writers at realgm are very knowledgeable.
I think it's nice to see considering they had us at 16th which is similar to what other rankings systems had us.

Very important game tonight, and a few big games coming up for us against some real genuinely tough teams.
To me, this ranking doesn't count for much until we've been tested by the top 8 teams and on the road.

Quote
The Bulls have overtaken the 76ers for the top slot in our rankings with their 22-6 record and 9.7 point average margin of victory.

Portland is ranked fourth despite being ninth in the Western Conference. But they have undoubtedly been buoyed by their 5.6 point differential, winning big as they did recently against the Suns and typically losing small as they have in three of the past four games.

Over the past two weeks, the Clippers have moved from 15th to ninth with Chris Paul returning from injury.

The Celtics have made an even bigger jump, going from 16th to fifth. Boston is 9-1 over their past 10 games, beating up on several non-MIA/CHI/PHI Eastern Conference foes.

The Jazz have slipped from 10th to 15th and the Lakers have dropped from eighth to 12th.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

No idea what they base their rankings on but it appears to be statistical over opinion (which is what Stein's ESPN power ranking is) since they mention point differential for POR.

C's are now in the top 10 in point differential and have the number 1 defense (based on points allowed).  Their last 10 record of 9-1 is also tops in the league at the moment.  Can't really argue with the ranking right now.  But let's see how thing stand after LAL and CHI coming up.

5th is crazy good considering any ranking not having CHI, MIA, and OKC as 1-3 (any order) is whack. i do like seeing the lakers being mid grade though  ;D
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.
