yeah that was really bad and it cost Portland the game. If David Stern is concerned with getting the best basketball in the NBA, he needs to do something, anything, about the referees and not fine people 70,000 dollars when they bring up the horendousness of the referees (mark cuban).

To be fair, that's clearly not a goaltend when you slow it down, but that call was really close, especially in real time.

I wish that was something they could review at that point in the game, but that's a tricky standard to apply too.

I was watching that live and thought it was a pretty obvious block. Honestly i threw my hands up when i saw that call. If I can see that from my couch then the ref should be able to see that a few feet away. Reminds me how the thunder got a bogus goal tending call in their favor last year against the nuggets as well can't remember if it was on them or the nuggets but it ended up really helping the thunder and changed the whole series.

Out of all of the miserable calls I have seen, I have a hard time with using this one as an example of the incompetence of NBA refs.

That was 1) fast moving 2) a rather close call 3) a high pressure moment.  It sure would be nice though if there was some sort of reasonable review system for calls that occur in those types of situations.  Mistakes that are pivotal to outcomes suck.

I mean for pete's sake, we saw a Celtic 'turnover' a few weeks ago where an opponent got off of the bench to steal the ball and it went unnoticed by the refs.  That's a 'those dang refs' situation.

Was it the one against Orlando? They had 4 players on court so I think that's legal.

I suppose. The fact that they aren't allowed to review plays on video for goaltending is dumb. THOSE DANG RULES.

I am almost certain that is a violation if only because players are only allowed to check themselves into games at specific times.

The worst part about it is that the outside ref is the one who called it. Two refs had a better view and didn't call it, but the outside one did.

Just terrible. Ruining the league.

Yeah, as far as I can tell, there is no way, he can actually see if there is goaltending from his position.

Terrible call ... Scott Foster is truly one of the worst, and has joined the "Gripe Group" of officials like Ken Mauer, Joey Crawford, Dick Bevetta, (too bad - used to be one of the best), Violet Palmer, et al ... I'm just plain tired of the lack of accountability, not just for our own satisfaction, but for the quality and level of excellence it would foster.

They ought to get fined for bad calls just as the players do for bad behavior but this is never going to happen as they as doing what Stern wants them to do.

If we want to talk about bad calls.  Joe Crawford is the king. (Other than Bennett Salvatore)  Here is one of the most obvious bad calls I have ever seen.

Why is this not reviewable?

Yeah if they're going back and reviewing three point shots throughout the game (and 24 shot clock violations) why can't they review goaltending calls?
