JG is going to want security and a role to play, perhaps more than upfront $$.  He will want the most years he can get.

We can surely accomodate that by offering a contract with a modest guaranteed amount plus incentives.  I think the competition for his services will be in the MLE range of $5M.  If that turns out to be true, we have a very, very good chance of keeping him around for that money without totally cramping our FA recruitment (it would probably enhance it).

We're in the best position to keep him around for reasonable money, and trading for him is the reason why.

We've all heard Larry and Tommy talk about loyalty this week and players wanting stability for their kids in school and that sort of thing.  I think Green will value that given his recent health scare, and the C's are developing a reputation as a class organization.

I'm confused..you were trying to point out my hyperbole?
I'd go one further and say that I tried and succeeded. There's not much of an argument there after you strip away the sarcasm, which was the point.

Its not 'precisely the same thing' at any magnitude. What evidence, if any, do you have that Jeff Green will sign with Boston for less money?
He doesn't need to sign for less money, just a team-friendly contract. Like one similar to the qualifying offer that got torpedoed. You know, that qualifying offer that he accepted. There's no guarantee that it even happens: suppose we hit the lottery and pick up Dwight, JG ain't coming back. This would be true for any other use of the cap space that's better than him.

If you're going to say that Green takes the 8M/1yr QO because he stank up the end of the 2011 season and hurt his stock, consider that now he'll be in exactly the same position as before (unrestricted FA, but with Boston under the cap they can match anything reasonable so it's the same thing in principle). Except, added bonus, he's now damaged goods, Ronny Turiaf style. I could spend a hundred years in the lotus position contemplating this situation, and still wouldn't understand how it doesn't put Boston in a BETTER position to get him, so help me out here.

How is it 'precisely the same thing' as the situation with Pierce?
I like easy questions. It's precisely the same thing because it establishes the fact that human beings in the NBA are capable of making decisions that run contrary to their rational monetary self-interest. Unless you're about to drop a bombshell that exposes Jeff Green as a space alien, I feel pretty good about this point.

Well, I do appreciate a good apocalypse joke, but its a lot more probable that he comes back and is just Jeff Green, who has historically been an up-and-down player with a good amount of pure talent that was too small to play the 4 and too streaky from outside to be an exceptional 3.
I didn't say that he had to be the next PP. Our superstar for the future is some kid named Rajon Rondo, and he needs solid players around him. Guys that can run the floor. Guys that can abuse match-up advantages. He doesn't need to shoot like Ray to be an outside threat, either. Etc.

I have a hard time taking seriously people who think Asik is as good defensively as Perkins.
I'm glad to hear you don't take Bulls fans seriously either.  ;)
Yeah, well, Celtics fans thought Gerald Green was the next big  thing after sliced bread (I regret to say some may still think so).

But even as poor as Perkins has played, he's still better than a second-year guy who can't get off his team's bench for more than 16 minutes per game. Sorry.

Forgive me too if I don't hold it against a player to get only 16 minutes a game behind Noah and Boozer, and Gibson also vying for playing time.

I need to watch him play more, but what I've seen has shown me plenty as a defender. But will need to watch him more that's for certain.

I'd like to see though how much time Perk would get in that squad, I don't think it's as much as he's used to, particularly with how he's playing.

I don't know about this season. Asik's PER - 13.1, Perk -  6.4.

Asik's rebounding rate 18.9. Perk's 11.7.

Asik's WS/48 - .121. Perk's = .021

He's playing in a big man rotation with Booz and Noah. I don't expect him to get many more minutes than 16. Averages about the same amount of blocks as Perk in less minutes.

Defensively, the Bulls give up 6.3 more points when Asik's off the court. Perkins has an edge here at 8 points, give or take.

Overall though, I think it's fair to say that Asik's having a better year.
