There are many in this forum that thought (and even crazier yet, may still think) that signing the Jermaine O'Neal signing was a great coup by Danny....
JO has been pretty good for us, though. It would have been better if he could stay on the court more, but you absolutely can't blame the 2nd round exit on him last year, for example. He played really well, even with a broken wrist.

You think?

I think I hated the Perk trade as much as anybody but completely understood it.  A first round pick is better than just letting him walk.

People focus too much on his playtime, and not things like his impact when healthy, or the fact that Danny got him to sign for only a two year contract. That's what made is a good signing. It got some hindsight-coup points after we signed Shaq and had four Centers on our roster, although obviously that didn't end up working out after our injury insurance got injured.

P.S. Garnett and Bass can't really play at the 5 position.
Tell that to Dwight Howard.

I love Perkins. I just wish Danny didn't get as much flack for a great trade. I want to see Perkins succeed. Believe me.

Dip in production aside, Perkins is the starting center on a 20-5 team, Jeff Green is currently an unrestricted free agent recovering from heart surgery.

You can call it a reasonable risk on Ainge's part, and no way he could have foreseen this outcome, but also no way that it qualifies as "great."

OP - What did Danny Ainge get from the KP trade?

I told you so, Jeff Green would have a heart issue and not play the 2012 season, wasting time and money that could of been used on FAs that can play an actual game...

He really told all the doubters.

So would Bill Russell, but under no circumstances would either be available for us tomorrow night.

Perkins was not going to be a Celtic tomorrow night regardless of whether he was traded

He could say that he was right to let somebody else overpay Kendrick Perkins and that Perk wasn't going to return this year anyway, even if we offered him all the cap space we had available.

Not that I think getting Jeff Green for this year was a great coup or anything.  Hindsight is 20/20 though

Saying I told you so isn't cool.   I thought he was vastly over rated here by many fans but I would like to see him do well as long as he is not playing us.

This is how I feel about the situation too.  TP

While I have always been sympathetic to players whose impact is not fully captured by stats, I find it hard to ignore how bad his stats are. Was his high shooting percentage here fully an artifact of the system, a percentage he is unlikely to get anywhere else? He did shoot well in 05-06, 2 years before the Big Three.

At some point it becomes hard to dismiss that statistical case that he is not the player he once was, whatever that is.
I'm not sure that Westbrook is able to get Perk the looks that Rondo could. He's too busy taking 18 shots a game. I'll give some credit to the system change.

But if you don't like Perk's personal stats, just look at what happened to OKC's DRtg from 2010-11 to 2011-12 (spoilers, goes from 107.2 points allowed per hundred possessions to 102.9). It's not like the team has made any huge moves in their roster besides The Trade<tm>.

I agree with both of these. Rondo makes a big difference. And people who talk about Perk's scoring don't really get what his value is. He's anchoring a good defense and he gives them a veteran presence that's played in multiple finals.

afaik wed still be over the cap with or without green, so that money cant be used to sign an FA that can play.  ::)

One of those trades that didn't help either team, even by the metrics that some of you hold so dear. With that said, I'd still make it.

And certainly Blake Griffin's happy to have his new victim in the Western Conference.

I'm really not looking forward to Gasol shooting 14 footers over Bass at will tomorrow.  Undersized PF's are Danny's binkies (and Gasol's lunch).

We need some size.

I am. He hits about 40% of them.
