Let me ask you guys a question. I have a little league draft tonight for my middle boy, I coach two of my sons in little league and also am a teacher. I want to see live Paul pass Larry.  The other coaches will not bend and allow the draft to take place an hour later. I can email my picks and what team we want to be, but I will physically not be there. Does this make me a bad dad? I dont think so, the draft is always rigged in favor of the top coaches

this is the way the draft works

1 person decides the level for each player,
2 you list the players by level on a whiteboard
3 coaches and asst coaches take their sons off the board
4 parents who have a preference for a certain coach have their kids taken off the board
5. then we go in order taking what is left

ps it is coach pitch for 6-7 year olds so its all about fun

So, your son is guaranteed to be on your team, and tonight's event isn't something that would normally involve the kids at all?

In that case, no, I don't think that makes you remotely a bad dad.  If there was a possibility that your son would walk away thinking "Dad picked the Celtics instead of me", I'd feel differently, but it doesn't sound like there's much possibility of that.

Honestly this isn't that important of a record. Live your life. Record the game if it's that important to you.

You already know what Pierce means to this organization. Do your thing, man. Put it in perspective.
"It's not how you play the game. It's whether you win or lose--that's my motto." -Larry Bird

Your son is more important.

If it was a game, I'd say yes...a draft of kids you know nothing about (for the most part)?  Nah, you definitely get a pass on that

What would you want your father to do and why?

If this is the worst thing you ever do as a father you're probably a pretty good dad. There's tons of kids not coaching their kids or anyone's or going to game. You are.

In fact there are tons of guys that don't even act like they realize they are a father. But don't measure yourself by them

this isnt that hard to figure out....record the game!  your son should always come first.

DVR is a hell of a drug.
“Being a Celtic is, every decision you make is about the team. Every cut you make is about the team. Every pass you make is about the team. You take yourself out of it. It’s not for everyone. If you don’t want to win, don’t want to play team basketball, and it’s more about you then you’re probably not a Celtic." Doc 2010
