I'm still not buying the hype.  I've watched too much basketball to get caught up in this.  He's on fire right now.  I've seen it before.  There was like a two month stretch in 05-06 (Dec-Jan) when Delonte West shot like 53% and 50% from three... It was tough not to believe he was one of the best pure shooters alive at that point... http://espn.go.com/nba/player/gamelog/_/id/2422/year/2006/delonte-west

That was like a 20 game stretch for West.  It's been 5 games for Lin.  It's been a fun ride.  Jacking up 20 shots a night and turning the ball over 8 times a night... we'll see what happens.  I give him 11 games.

what you havent seen is a guy that was not drafted, in the dleague last year, and was cut by two teams this season before it started...do it.

will he keep it up, i highly doubt it. he will come down to earth im sure, especially since melo will be returning and jacking shots up.

it is enjoyable to see an underdog do what he is doing.  you can believe what you want, but after seeing your racially insensitive posts the other day (that were removed), then attempting to justify them by saying your asian girlfriend approves (like that even matters), your motives are easy to see.
First... you just backed up my point by pointing out that he was undrafted and cut by two teams.  Highly unlikely this is anything other than an extended fluke.

Second, lol.  Not everyone understands internet memes... I didn't argue with the posts being deleted, but I'm not going to apologize for them.  But since you bring it up out of context to paint me in the poor light, I feel obligated to point I out I merely linked to a few "High Expectations Asian Father" memes:  http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/high-expectations-asian-father ... Half my facebook friends are Asian American and they have been posting this crap for the past week in reference to Lin.  None of these memes are intended to make Lin look bad.  If anything, they are a celebration in Asian American culture and shoehorning Jeremy Lin into a popular internet trend.  If that's "Racially Insensitive" then "Scumbag Steve" ( http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/scumbag-steve ) is "racially insensitive" to idiots from Boston.  Also... from my girlfriend, "Funny that these presumably white people are telling me what is racially insensitive about my culture"... she's Japanese American.  She wears "angry little girls" shirts all the time:

Her mother is actually like this... never impressed with anything she does.  She wins awards for her cake decorating and her mother literally tells her, "Why aren't you going to medical school?"... It's one of those things, "it's funny, because it's true"... a lot of folks can relate to it.  The way my girlfriend describes it, "Most Asian parents do not praise their children.  It's against their culture.  As a parent you are supposed to keep your child motivated and push them to succeed.  They think that if they pat their child on the back and congratulate them, it will make them weak and they will stop trying.  I've been trying my entire life to get my mother to acknowledge anything positive I've done.  Those Lin jokes aren't racist... they are funny".  So you can see why "38 points Jeremy?  Why you no score 100?" falls in line with that humor.  Don't worry about it, broham.  I just don't think you get it (or maybe you do... you have Bruce Lee as your avatar).  The same reason those jokes are popular with Asian Americans is the same reason why so many Asian Americans can relate to Jeremy Lin.  He grew up in Cali, went to Harvard and now plays in the NBA.  As a couple of my friends on Facebook were saying, "Lin is like family".  They could never really relate to Yao, but they see themselves in Lin.  I do understand why the post was deleted though... easier to remove it than to explain the asian american humor to overly militant politically correct white people.

And for the record, I'd love for Lin to succeed... it would be one less place for Deron Williams to sign with in the offseason... which opens up the window for us to dump Pierce and Ray for draft picks/young cheap talent, free up enough cap room to make a run at both Deron AND Dwight... and trade Rondo to the highest bidder.  It would be a good thing.

Why is Jeremy Lin so popular? Because he is the Anti-Megastar before they do anything athlete. The fans are starting to change their attitude towards athletes and are looking for a new kind of story.

Imagine if started a little earlier and was on the All-star ballot this year... he would probably start over DWade.

Become Legendary.

Well it would actually be Rose not DWade.  But it is an interesting thought for next year.  Rose is actually very popular in China.  Lin will need to keep up a high level of play until next season and that's a long way out.

I was thinking of that today.  He definitely would have been voted in the way things are going.  He's selling out road arenas in places that don't normally sell out.

As it is, he'll definitely make the rookie/soph thing (or whatever it is they're doing this year) despite barely playing for 2/3 of the season.
Yup

i fully understand the jist behind your posts.  you can explain and justify it however you want, but there is a reason why it was deleted (beside it going against the rules), it isnt appropriate for a public forum, whether it is in person around stranagers or online with strangers.  It can be incensitive and bothersome to some.  if your group of friends are cool with those interactions, that is one thing, but to put them out there for strangers is opening a can of worms for people to take offense to it.

NOH at NY tonight. I'm sure they'll be focused on getting 8 straight.

Good to see Lin added to All-Star festivities next week, too.

A Wages of Win blog post on Jeremy Lin:

Quote
How could the Warriors cut Lin? (The answer by the way was so they could not sign DeAndre Jordan) How could the Rockets cut Lin? (The answer was to make room for Dalembert and to keep warm bench spots open for Jonny Flynn and Hasheem Thabeet) How could the rest of the league pass on him?

The issue in the NBA is this: playing an unknown player while your team is losing is a risky proposition for coaches. Much like going for it on fourth down in football will draw scrutiny in a loss, so will playing unknown players in front of known players. While everyone scurries to prove that Lin will be the greatest player since MJ or that they could have known he was coming (we’re somewhat guilty of that), there’s a bigger issue. Lin is proof of an inherent flaw in NBA management. Owners refuse to quit because they’ve sunk millions of dollars into players. Coaches refuse to play unknown players because of a risk to their job.

I often propose taking risks on unknown D-Leaguers rather than veteran retreads precisely because I think there's a chance you find someone like Jeremy Lin.  (OK, maybe not quite this good, but definitely a rotation-caliber player on a championship contender.)  So, yeah.

I have two Lin-related quesitons.

#1 - How will New York react when Jeremy starts throwing up stinkers.

#2 - What happens in the unlikely scenario that Lin is legit.  Isn't he an unrestricted free agent?  Isn't the MLE the most NY can offer him?  Are they at risk of losing him to a team with cap space to burn?

I'm officially rooting for Lin to continue dominating... he'll play himself out of a NY contract.  Boston can step in and offer him 12 mil a season and trade Rondo for a complimentary piece.  I'm with you guys, now.  Jeremy Lin is the Asian Tiger Woods.

As I said in another thread, under the Gilbert Arenas rule, the max salary Lin can be offered is the full MLE so that the Knicks have a chance to match.

Edit:  I found the part you're talking about:  "The Arenas provision was added to the rulebook in 2005, restricting the offers that teams can make to restricted free agents with one or two years in the league. Under the Arenas provision, the first-year salary in an offer sheet can't exceed the mid-level exception, which ensures that the Knicks will have the means to match any offer that Lin may receive. "

The MLE is only $5 mil a year.  I was confused how the Knicks could "match" a bigger contract offer.  I guess that provision limits how much Lin can make.
