He's a great player, super talented, and crazy heart beyond belief. He gives his all, he tries his best, and in many instances, he was the one lifting this team up when nobody else did, or seemed as if they could. but it is becoming very clear that, in the rise of Rajon Rondo, it has created this style of play, intended to showcase him as their star, and it is hurting the team. We are, in essence, purposely evening the playing field for the other teams. We are making it easier to beat this team.

We are acting as if we don't have stars capable of managing a decent half court offense without rondo being a sort of magnet that always needs to get back and control the ball.

He's making too many risky gambles with how he passes the ball. He's smart, but often gets caught trying to do way too much. Going into tall trees trying to somehow create a fancy play or pass out of nothing at all. We can't afford to have our potentially good offensive options or chances to win games on the offensive end, continue to go to waste as they seem to so often do lately while rondo is running the offense. How many times this season have we seen the Celtics fight back from a deficit, and have a chance to take the lead from the other team, only to see Rondo charge to the other end of the floor by himself without his team, trying a risky layup that ends up missing, ultimately handing the ball right back to the other team?

Our offensive options become way too limited when he's controlling the ball and directing the offense for extended periods of time while the other guys on the team seemingly just wait around while ray is running off what has become now predictable screens. It makes it easier for teams to defend us. They have no idea what to expect from us when there are ball handlers like pierce and Bradley working with the team in a legitimate way to create what I view as more "natural" and unforced opportunities to score.

Bradley's defense is far superior, as anyone who saw tonight's game, and any of the last couple games can see. I'm not suggesting trading rondo, or getting rid of rondo, or even taking him out of the starting lineup. I'm suggesting that Rondo be reigned in, and become a hybrid of the rondo that we won the championship with in 2008, and that had that unbelievable breakout playoff performance in the 2009-2010 season playoffs. Having this roster of players try to rely on Rondo to create some type of offense as heavily as they do, is hurting the teamwork, and I can't be the only person who sees this.

There are plays that happen on this Celtics team that simply don't happen, or simply aren't possible when rondo is directing the offense. It isn't that we aren't good with rondo, it's that we are just capable of being much better when he simplifies his game a whole lot, and allows the other players on his team to work amongst themselves and make more creative decisions on offense. Our offense has been clicking more because we have become far less predictable. It's a big part of the reason the team was still so strong without Ray. This team has great superstars, and they showcase how great when they have no choice but to play a different style.

What made rondo great wasn't all this fancy stuff that he's now trying to do. What made him great was that he was a simplistic as hell player that did what he did very well. They have to get that "I'm a superstar, and I'm going to show everybody why that is" mentality out of his game. The offense will struggle, and we will not be a true playoff contender if it continues.

All I want is for rondo to go back to the player he use to be before all these commentators starting putting this crap in his head about him being the best player on the Celtics. He is not. He isn't even top 3, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with this. Rondo is forgetting his role, and Doc has to make it clear.

It should never be the case that you are scared to death of every single pass that is made by your team's starting point guard. That just doesn't make sense. Rondo is the man, but please, please, he has to remember the core of his game. Rondo, like rose learned after last season, has to throttle that aggressiveness a bit more, so he can go back to being our best kept secret, who could systematically destroy a team when they least expect.

Did you just call Avery Bradley a ball handler?

I honestly believe with this current Celtics roster, Rondo would be better used in trade bait to get a legit center. Going forward, Rondo is not a centerpiece for an organization but a decent piece to a puzzle. If somehow Orlando would accept a trade for Dwight Howard centered around Rondo, I'd definitely do it. (Orlando management is pretty lame, so they might do it to.)

I was looking forward to the first "Sit Rondo, play Bradley" thread.  AB has officially sorta made it.  TP!

This narrative that Rondo is hogging the ball and disrupting the offense seems to be gaining a lot of traction on the blog.

I'm not seeing it.

This has been going on since last season. I'm not gonna insult anyone personally, but some people's jibber-jabber is getting old, to put it simply.

the last thing we need is a center. we need  roster built to beat the heat, not orlando or the lakers. stacking up at the forwards is the way to go.

very interesting post - and i, like the OP love Rondo's unique talents and heart. i'd love to see #9 in the rafters one day.

i think the point here, in simpler terms, is that Rondo has established his limits as a player and instead of respecting those limits and being content to be great at what he's great at, he more and more frequently is trying to play outside those limits in some irrational effort to live up to the media hype about being a franchise player, which he is not.

I've been saying this since for 4 yrs now... This is the best time to trade Rondo. His value is sky high but his need for this team is at an all-time low. candidates to replace at point if we trade for a big like Howard...

Like the time we traded perk as he was injured and can not be relied upon.

Come on man, he has the celtic swagger and has been a key cog for the Cs.

Lets just play the season out.

Aaron Brooks also comes to mind.

The problem is that when Rondo is in there we lose ball movement, as crazy as that might sound given his assist totals, and become very predictable as he is dribbling at the top of the key waiting for someone to get open. Instead, I would probably prefer him working the baseline, like he used to do, and let Pierce work more high pick and roll with KG. This creates more spacing by forcing Rondo's man to cover him and makes us harder to defend.

He hasn't played in weeks, lets allow him to get back in the flow of things. Before he went out the others weren't playing well (e.g. Pierce) and now they are ok. Lets be patient.
