I love watching this team whether they are bad or good.
Pretty much.

If you are on the bandwagon feel free to hop off.

The fact that a person doesn't enjoy watching the team go through painful stretches on offense or go through the motions on defense some nights doesn't mean they are "jumping off the bandwagon."

people are free to do what they like, but by definition, a bandwagon fan watches the team only when they are successful.

people can do whatever they want.  me personally, i have watched the celts for about 30 yrs thru all the great times and bad.

no, a bandwagon fan only pays attention / cares about a team when they are successful.

you can be a hardcore fan of a team and follow them very closely, but refuse to watch them play if they are playing like crap.

we can agree to disagree on the definition of a bandwagon fan then.  i think my definition is accurate and you have a different interpretation.  i think a "hardcore" fan would still watch, even if it is frustrating for them to do so.

He sees the games they win even in 20 win seasons.

i dont understand what you are saying here.  who is "rey" and what wasnt said here?

i have never wavered in my faith, that things are gonna get better, that they will pick it up anytime soon..but in the event that they don't, they are gonna be MY celtics always, like in life, i accept things as they are, you win some, you lose some, right?

I am sick of watching this team....  Who are they?  No heart and soul anymore.  No Celtic Pride.  Just a bunch of players running up and down the court.

After the threat of blowing it up a few weeks ago they started playing well now, look at it.....

8th seed?  5th seed?  Who the hell cares.  If we have no hope of winning it all, then I say BLOW IT UP, DANNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This team is not winning a title as is. Ray, Paul, and KG look very old at times. I hate the coach, his rotations, and all of his try to fool the fans coach speak. Having said that, I love the Celtics. Would watch them no matter what. I'm loyal.

As weird as it sounds to say, this team could really use a player like Vitaly Potapenko right about now.

Agreed...even Montross.

Eric played very well that first year in Green...I loved Dino, too - poor fella couldn't stay healthy.

I love watching this team play.  I see flashes of really good basketball.  They just need to play well enough to make the post-season and avoid Ainge's itchy trigger finger along the way, and they'll make some noise come playoff time.

Wikipedia:
Bandwagon Fan -- supporter of a sports team only during a period of success

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bandwagon%20fan

Various definitions on Urban Dictionary.

None of these definitions say anything about watching the actual games -- rather, being a bandwagon or fairweather fan is related to your actual interest in or support of a particular team.  If you only care about or actually cheer for a team when they are successful, you are a bandwagoner.

With respect to the definition of a "hardcore" fan, I think you might have a point there that a true "hardcore" fan would watch every single game no matter how bad the team is.  But a hardcore fan could also just not have the time or the means to watch every single game.  Personally, I don't know anybody who is a more hardcore fan of the Celtics than myself, yet I don't really have the ability to watch every game.  I look at every box score, read every game recap, post about every game before and after, read ESPN reactions and blog articles, look at Twitter during games, etc.

All of those things I think are just as representative of my dedication as a fan of the Celtics (and the NBA in general) as watching the games themselves.

I LOVE watching the Celtics through good times and bad.  The only thing I would not
be able to stand is an owner/management that didn't care too much about winning
or was just in it for ticket sales.  In that case it's very hard to watch a team struggle
and stay involved and enthusiastic.

That hasn't been the case with the Celtics for years, if ever (side discussion?).
I assume this ownership wants to win as much as me, if not more (safe assumption.)

Having said that, if Kidd-Gilchrist is not on the Celtics next year I may shoot myself.

To me bandwagon fans are the guys who leave as soon as the losing starts.  A diehard will stick with his or her fan no matter what.  They also watch stuff like the draft religiously.   A bandwagon jumps ship at the first sign of trouble.

What does 'jump ship' mean in this context?

Cuz if it means the Celtics are playing like hot garbage and you throw the remote at the TV and walk away til the next one, I imagine there are a lotta bangwagon fans around here.

Yeah, that seems like a silly standard.

To me, "jumping ship" means you go "Eh, the Celtics suck" and then you start watching Bruins games and reading about Red Sox spring training and listening to Felger and Maz in the car ranting about the Bruins, the Sox, and occasionally the Pats.

Basically, you stop paying attention to the team.  A bandwagoner only cares about the team when the team is having success.  Otherwise, they just shift their attention to something else.

like i said b4, we can agree to disagree on defining terms.  of course real life gets in the way sometimes and people cant always watch every game, but saying ur not watching bc of poor play, constitutes a bandwagon fan to me (which is what i have said all along).

did u actually use urban dictionary as a reference....lol, smh ;D
