I suppose this is appropriate for the day after Groundhog Day:

Quote
The Portland Trail Blazers announced on Friday that center Greg Oden will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee in Vail, CO, today to remove debris. Oden had microfracture surgery on his right knee in September 2007.

Oden's most recent injuries have been to his left knee. Oden underwent microfracture surgery on his left knee in November 2010 after fracturing his left patella in December 2009.

Blazers Acting GM Chad Buchanan told Blazersedge on Friday that Oden could undergo a similar procedure on his left knee in the coming days as well. "That's a possibility."

... Marc Stein of ESPN.com reported later in December that Oden agreed to renegotiate his $8.8 million qualifying offer down to $1.5 million.

Oden, 24, has played in 82 games since being drafted as the No. 1 pick in the 2007 NBA Draft and has not appeared in a game since December 2009. Oden has posted career averages of 9.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game.

As predictable as it is, it still makes me a little sad.

Man, the Blazers are just plain unlucky. Walton, Bowie (who might have been much better if not for injuries) over Jordan, Sabonis arriving well past his prime, Roy, Oden, etc...

actually, i was surprised by the news. you mean oden still has knees left?

but honestly, it is a sad end to a career that should have been outstanding.

if i am not mistaken, this makes the third often-injured center portland has drafted...

walton
bowie
oden

heck, this may make future college centers refuse to report to portland if they are chosen.  ;)
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Reading through the comments on the website, it looks like the recovery time is 1-3 weeks?  So he still can play this season it appears.

After reading through the entirety of that article, it doesn't sound like the Blazers are very optimistic.  This seems like just a first step.

His last game was in Dec 09? Ouch! I don't think he is ever going to come back, which is truly sad. He had the potential to be a perennial All-Star for years to come. I think he will do just what Yao did: Give up his hope sooner or later.

I've heard the phrase "first step" just too often in Yao's and Oden's careers. Just when you feel he's been out a gazillion years, it's being reported he takes the first step in his recovery.

Oden has yet another knee surgery

You guys best watch your mouth when you talk about our future starting center.  Let's hope for a full recovery by the start of next season in green.

Tough times for him and Portland.

I guess the good thing, if any, in this is that he is still somewhat young.

I mean - at what point do you give up?

I wouldn't.

Talk about what a story that would be if he ever plays again.

I wish him the best.
