The best idea I could come up with that is somewhat reasonable... I think? Might need to part with some picks to make this work for the other teams..:

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=6mthfro

BOS get Josh Smith & OJ Mayo, MEM gets Pierce & Marvin Williams, ATL get Bass & Gay.

So MEM could get rid of a big contract and get a great Vet for a championship run. Williams helps fill bench void. ATL deals a player who been asking out for sometime and gets a young scorer longterm in Gay (not like they'd have cap space anytime soon anyways). Bass adds a big man and Horford moves to 4, his proper spot.

I would love to see how OJ & Smith develop under the tutelage of KG/Ray Allen. Two all-star talent who haven;t put it together yet. They could really take off and add the athleticism this team needs so badly..

Consider this, we could still sign a max player in 2012 and give Jeff Green ~5-6M contract. Not a bad young team to lure Howard with. Alternatively if Howard isn't interested we could resign Allen & KG with bird rights, and Jeff Green too. Rondo, Allen, Green, J SMith & KG with OJ at 6th man? That too is a nice mix of old and young and a team that could make some noise. Just an idea..

Forgot to mention both OJ and Smith are only under team control for one more season after this so we could always re-gain our cap space in 2014 if they stunk and it didn't work out.

Why would Memphis do that?

Memphis made a strong run with Gay out last year and with Shane Battier at 3. Dealing an overpaid Gay for a veteran who could more than replace the contribution of Battier would be ideal for Memphis. They make a run now with a veteran who has been there before but doesn't have the longterm deal that Gay has.

Would BOS do it, I think we'd be worst off here by giving up our franchise guy for two young knuckleheads. Especially if we dealt our 2012 picks we'd have the most to lose since ATL will always build around Horford and MEM will build around Zebo/Gasol no matter what. BOS would be walking away from the Rondo/Pierce combo for next years team hoping OJ/Smith would figure it out and become the all stars we need to rebuild on the fly.

If it's a choice between Josh Smith and Rudy Gay, I would much rather have Rudy Gay.

Cut Atlanta out of the mix and offer Bass + Pierce to Memphis for Rudy Gay. Not interested in OJ Mayo but I'd take him on and trade him elsewhere if Memphis wanted to move Mayo in order to get Bass.

I definitely don't see Memphis giving up Rudy Gay

I can't see Memphis making that trade.  Gay is playing extremely well for them right now and is pretty consistent.  With Randolph still out, I don't think they get rid of two scorers for one older less consisten scorer.  Perhaps in a month they make the move.

Also, I too would rather have Rudy Gay than Josh Smith.

I actually think Memphis might prefer Josh Smith than Paul Pierce (more manageable contract, more versatile positioning).

This trade seems more plausible, though I am still not sure Memphis does it (I think Atlanta and Boston probably do).

Boston - Gay
Memphis - Smith, Pachulia
Atlanta - Pierce, Bass
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I think Memphis is giving up way too much talent here. Maybe if picks are involved, but still, way too much talent Grizz is gicing away.
2019 CStrong Historical Draft 2000s OKC Thunder.
PG: Jrue Holiday / Isaiah Thomas / Larry Hughes
SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal
SF: Paul Pierce / Tayshaun Prince / Brian Scalabrine
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge / Shareef Abdur-Raheem / Ben Simmons
C: Jermaine O'neal / Ben Wallace

Memphis wouldn't give up Rudy Gay for that package, let alone Rudy Gay and OJ Mayo.

Also, Horford would absolutely remain the Center in that situation.

It is a lot for Memphis.. Just working with the names I see in trade rumors, I was thinking the salary relief of trading Gay would be a factor since Pierce essentially has one one year left after this.
