So what are they giving up for Kaman ?

George Hill is an expiring and out indefinitely, plus a 2nd round pick ?

If they only gave up AJ Price and/or Stephenson that would be a steal, Amundson could work too.

Louis Amundson + a #2 would work, and would save the Hornets $11+ million.

Just to nitpick (it really has no bearing on the point), that would be the cap savings.  The actual savings would be significantly less, since with the shortened season, Kaman is only making a little over 10 million, and they would have already paid him about $3.75 million of that.

But yeah, the savings would be significant enough to make it a worthwhile trade for NOH.

Why would IND want him? Are they planning on parting with Hibbert at some point or trading him for another piece at the trade deadline? Otherwise thats a lot of investment for a backup center like Kaman
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

can never have too many skillful and big centers with legit size!

great for a playoff run , then he becomes a free agent so you aren't investing in him long term .

Miami is going to have a hard time matching up with the Pacer's middle if they can just swap between Kaman and Hibbert.  Two guys with no problems shooting over the 6-9 Anthony.

They are way below the cap anyways, and Kaman makes them a much deeper team, and gives them insurance in case something happens to Hibbert.

Hibbert's always been a low-minute guy (usually around 28 mpg), so back-up centers have more value in Indy.  Overpaying Kaman for half a season when the team is so far under the cap isn't wasting money by NBA standards.

A shame for Indy that Jeff Foster's back is so bad.  If he was healthy, they could focus their cap space on getting better depth on the wing.  Kaman's not a terrible guy to target though.  West/Hibbert/Kaman/Hansbrough is an interesting blend: pretty good size and a nice range of offensive skills (if not efficiency).

Good point.

If Melo wasn't on the Knicks, the Knicks would be a homerun for my second fav team in the East..but with melo on the KNicks (and for some reason I can't stand Melo anymore..used to be a big fan), I think the Pacers have slyly moved into second place.

From RealGM:

A league source said Wednesday night that the Pacers, one of several other teams reportedly in the mix for Hornets center Chris Kaman, could, in fact, be the leading candidate for a swap.

The Pacers apparently are looking for a backup to Roy Hibbert.

Cleveland, Golden State and San Antonio also reportedly have expressed interest in Kaman, who has not played since Jan. 23, was inactive on Jan. 25 at Oklahoma City, and was told two days later to stay away from the team as it attempted to negotiate a trade.

CLE wanting to trade for him is a surprise.

Dan Gilbert and Byron Scott: a very competitive duo.  As long as they feel they are on the fringe of the playoffs, they will look to acquire veteran help.

I'm curious whether Cleveland is looking to move Vareajo's contract for Kaman. That would be an interesting development.

That would pretty much shock me.  I really don't see why Cleveland would move Varajao without getting some great pieces back.  His contract is a bargain for how he is playing right now.
