They both didn't sign extensions this year and they will be restricted free agents next year, but there is a good chance they reach UFA in 2013.

If the c's signed both Gordon and Hibbert in 2013 would they be legit contenders?

PG: Rondo
SG: Gordon / Ray ( reduced salary)
SF: PP
PF: Bass or other UFA
 C: Hibbert

how good is that team? looks good to me !  still probably need a better PF to be title contenders ?

don't count on it

We have 25 mil in cap space if Bass opts out of his 4 mil.  Bare minimum he is taking 4 mil... so in your scenario lets call it 21 mil in cap space. Max contracts are 14.5 mil.  So you're saying they will take less than the max (about 10 mil each?) and yet their retrospective teams will NOT match (letting their young stars walk for nothing)?  ... And then I guess you're expecting Ray to sign for the vet minimum.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
Only concern for me with Eric Gordon is he's turnover and injury prone. Other than that I'd love to have Gordon here. Efficient scorer and a good defender. I don't know if he'll want to be here though.

As for Roy Hibbert. This is just me, but I'd really rather have Spencer Hawes.

Although Hibbert is a better post player, they pretty much boast the same production. Hawes though, is a couple years younger, and has a year more experience (he's shorter than an inch and lighter than 15 lbs though). Hibbert can hit those elbow jumpers, but so as Hawes and can actually extend his range to 19-20 feet, which if used right could open up space for Rondo to operate, assuming we still have him. And most importantly, we can probably get Hawes for about a million or two cheaper than Hibbert is. I don't know why but i guess maybe because Hibbert is being liked more than Hawes. But I'd really rather have Spencer Hawes instead.
2019 CStrong Historical Draft 2000s OKC Thunder.
PG: Jrue Holiday / Isaiah Thomas / Larry Hughes
SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal
SF: Paul Pierce / Tayshaun Prince / Brian Scalabrine
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge / Shareef Abdur-Raheem / Ben Simmons
C: Jermaine O'neal / Ben Wallace

true , the c's would probably need to amnesty PP to sign both, but by 2013 PP will likely be washed up and I wouldn't hesitate to amnesty PP to sign both Gordon and Hibbet

That could a pretty solid roster especially if you were to add Jeff Green.  But I just don't see IND letting Hibbert go; they're going to match all offers.

If that's your plan, you should be on board with trading Pierce now for value... like to Indiana for cap space and a draft pick.  Why amnesty him when you can trade him?

Not possible.  Jeff Green would have to sign for the vet minimum.

Well how much cap room would we have if we amnestied PP?  If it gives us about 40 mil in cap room we could sign Gordon, Hibbert and possibly Josh Smith . Not sure if that's possible, just wondering

Misleading thread title...The Celtics have a chance to do a lot of things before 2013.

I bet the hornets lock up Gordon in the offseason and the Pacers do the same with Hibbert. Theres noy way the league owned Hornets let the key factor of their Chris Paul trade walk. And these days you dont let a more than servicable 7+ footer walk away.

There's technically a chance that a fully grown cow could materialize out of thin air next to me at any given time.  That doesn't mean it's going to happen.

Yeah it would give you about 40 mil in cap space.

If you traded Pierce right now for expiring contracts and multiple draft picks it would still give you 40 mil in cap space during the offseason... but you'd have significant value in the draft picks as opposed to having nothing.

So yes technically if you did that, you'd have enough room to give Hibbert and gordon max contracts and still have money left over (to maybe sign Jeff Green and Bass)

Hornets/Pacers still probably would match the contracts even if our max offer was ridiculously overpaying them.  Teams don't typically enjoy losing 23 year old fringe stars for nothing.

There is almost no chance whatsoever they'll both reach UFA in 2013. Both will get multi-year offers this summer and both will take one.

Not happening.
