I saw on HoopsHype that the Celtics are still paying Rasheed Wallace's contract (http://hoopshype.com/salaries/boston.htm?nr_email_referer=1) to the tune of nearly $6.8 million. I know that Rasheed retired, but if the Celtics were able to convince him to "unretire," could they potentially use his salary in a trade for a more expensive player, like Kaman?

If anyone knows how that works, please reply! Thanks!

Hoopshype is incorrect.

We're paying Rashard about $491k due to the buyout of his contract, and no, that amount is not tradeable.  The buyout terminated his contract, so if he came back to the NBA, he'd be a free agent, and would have to sign a new contract.

Thanks Roy! I figured that would have been talked about already if it was a possibility...

No problem.  Hoopshype is a useful site in a lot of ways, but their salary section is borderline garbage.  A better site for salaries is shamsports.com.

(An even better site is this spreadsheet, but it doesn't exactly role off the keyboard:  https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?hl=en_US&key=0AodNvAy3ZYZmdGRZX0VjeC1wdC1GeTd4dDJKZGZvVVE&hl=en_US&gid=4)
