The Celtics ball club is no attraction for all-star players like Deron or Dwight. These 2 players will not come to the Celtics if they go into free agency. Our chance will slim miserably. Our best bet right now is to make trades to at least acquire 1 of the 2.

Our options: Give up our point guard to get a big, or give up our point to get a better fitting point guard.

Option 1: If we trade Rondo + J.O., JJ, & 1 1st rounder to magic we could get it done. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=6o6uuzq This will leave us without a point guard shortly, but they'res plenty in the free agent pool to choose from or may even be bought out. Bradley Dooling & Moore is such a bad cast with the experince pieces we have complimenting them. We could sign Allen Iverson or someone else,  but I see Iverson on this team this year still.

Why: Orlando has to agree with just about any trade Dwight has interest in. Its there loss either way, so let's start talking this nonsense about "Why would Orlando do this?". There forced to. If they don't trade him to where he wants chances are he won't sign an extension with his new team resulting in the team not taking a chance on him. Also if they don't do a trade they risk a major chance of letting him go in the off season for nothing. Look @ what happened to Cleveland's Lebron, Toronto's Bosh & Phoenix's Amare. Otis Smith I hope learned from those GM'S mistake.. 1 thing I like about Danny is he doesn't take chances. If you're sensing not resigning he'll definitely trade you before letting you go freely (Perkins).

Option 2: May not be a better player than Rondo but he's a better fit. For instance Posey was a better fit for the Celtics but Jeff Green is a better player. Rondo also wants to prove to the league he's the best point guard, he could go do that in New Jersey. Deron wants to win and be with experience players he could come do that here. With this trade Nets get a all-star point guard locked in for the next 4 years & not risk the chance of losing one this. How this works? Trade Rondo+J.O. for Deron http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7ck6tr7

Why? Deron walks easily resulting in a major loss for the Nets. They basically lose nothing, but something. J.O. could be bought out & resigns with the Celtics.

These 2 Top All-Stars will never sign to the Celtics willingly in the off season. Pull the trigger now on theses trades. Orlando & New Jersey especially need to do something now, instead of hoping there men will return.

I'd rather have the draft picks than these overrated divas. I don't the the c's to be the 2nd coming of the knicks. Unless Howard suddenly got the soul of KG, I not high on getting him. Also D-will is a locker room cancer. If he can kick Jerry Sloan out of the Jazz, he might do the same with Doc.

Im not sure where this notion that no one wants to play in boston ever really came from. it seems like posters have just repeated it so many times its become some sort of truth.

but, Dwight has said he would consider boston, Josh smith has said he would go to boston, OJ mayo said he would go to boston.

not that these guys "are" going to come here..but this whole idea that "no free agents will come to boston!" isnt necessarily true..its based on some misguided negativity

Its a difference between saying you'll consider which we all do in our daily lives, and actually choosing to do so, which most of us don't do.

Orlando has already turned down Bynum, and Brook Lopez plus several first rounders.  Rondo plus a late first won't be enough.

Rondo for Deron is too risky right now, until we know what is going on with Dwight.  If we trade for Deron, and then D12 gets traded to somewhere he likes, Deron will bolt, leaving us with nothing.

The only scenario I see where we can get both is to aggressively court both Deron and Dwight on day one of free agency, selling them on a package deal.  That means including Rondo into a sign-and-trade for one of them, or moving Rondo somewhere else for draft picks and very little salary coming back.

Yep.  I have seen no evidence that one FA the C's have wanted and  have the money for has passed on Boston other than in an honest assessment of 1) the winning potential of the team in the years he would be here and 2) the playing time that he would likely earn on the team at his position.

There is no shortage of kidding ourselves here.   People think Dwight is going to choose us and Bradley can shoot.

J.O. could be bought out & resigns with the Celtics.

Not that it matters much since it's a small detail, but the new CBA prevents players who are traded and waived/bought out from returning to their original team until the following July 1st.

You know I think the "words" are great and I hope he's sincere.  But what a player tells a report kind of sounds like he's patronizing the fans to me.  Sure these guys want to stay and play for the C's - IF they get top dollar.  I've just heard it too many times and seen too many players chase the money.

Sorry but the Rondo package isn't NEARLY enough to get Dwight.  The lakers can easily trump that package just with bynum.  If they decide to trade both Bynum and gasol, then they'll get Howard.

were not getting Dwight through trade...and trading Rondo for him really doesnt even put dwight in a better situation.

You need to sell dwight on playing with an allstar-pass first PG like Rondo and an aging but still top SF in pierce..after that the team will fill itself out.

honestly, a D.will/howard pairing isnt really any better than a Rondo/howard pairing..

The problem with this logic is that ALL of the other trade destinations (Lakers, NY, etc.) were revealed ... TO REPORTERS. So maybe he's just patronizing LA and NY?

Anyway, why does anyone want Deron Williams? He has never proven that he is a better all-around player than Rondo, and he has a history of being locker room cancer. Also, watching him in New Jersey this season, it is obvious that he is soft, doesn't have heart. Not someone you want in rebuilding.
