So is Doc a good or bad coach?

If we came up short in ORL last night I know everyone would be screaming; why are you playing Pierce and KG so many minutes when this game is out of reach and especially since we have to trave and have a game the next night.  That's exactly what happened in the MIA game.  We came up short, but within one possession. 

So Doc left his troops in last night and they were able to pull it off.  Am I going to hear any complaints about mismanaging minutes?  I guess one thing we know for certain is Doc coaches every game to win.

The fewer players the better Doc does.  If he had Ray and Rondo, no matter how bad they were playing (IF they were playing bad that game) he would continue to play them rather than play who would produce or trying some other player.

Sorry, I still can't get over game 7 against the Lakers when Doc wouldn't play Tony no matter how horrible Ray was playing (and even after getting Kudos for holding Kobe to 22% shooting when he defended him) or not play Nate even though the team had trouble scoring, even though Nate won a playoff game for him, and even Nate was acquired for his scoring.  That still burns me up!

I agree. Doc has a lot of good qualities, but his loyalties to  veterans makes me want a different coach from time to time. I think the last two games have shown that the Celtics can survive without starting Ray. He or Paul would be great 6th man candidates. But when everyone is healthy, Doc will go back to the one lineup that has not shown a whole lot of success.

I get what you're saying, but you have to go home with the girl you brought to the dance (or whatever the saying is). Those guys got him there, and everyone would be calling for his head if we lost G7 with Nate and TA on the floor in crunch time. I can live with losing knowing that we put out the best players we had available, even if they were running on fumes.

Doc is like every coach.  He has habits and tendencies and sometimes those work to the team's advantage and sometimes not.  I think Doc is a little more extreme than most in that his stubborness can guide a team through tough times but it can also make those times even tougher.  I mean, can any other coach lay claim to an NBA title, coach of the year award and not one but two historically long losing streaks with two different franchises?

Like all coaches, Doc is a good one, but can become great or awful depending on the successes or failures of the superstar player(s).

I think Doc is a good coach.  He does ride his starters in the ground but he is player's coach and can motivate guys with the best of them.

I think he done a good job managing players this year as compared to previous years. I think the only player who hasn't seen a decent amount of minutes is JJ. Everybody else has seen extended playing time and contributed when called upon.

Unlike previous years when it seemed like we wouldn't have anybody be able to step in for us, it now seems like players can go down and Doc can insert players and get a good quality fill ins for a game or multiple games.

I think it's keeping us in the mix. If he can keep this going the rest of the season, I think we'll have an advantage come playoffs.

It's the easy way out. Go down with Ray Allen on the floor and nobody is asking for your head. Is it the right move, though? Obviously Rick Carlisle and the Mavs would disagree. Carlisle switched is starting lineup halfway through the finals because the old lineup wasn't working, and you know what? It probably won the series for them.

I wish Doc would be a little more gutsy at times.

Larry Brown? Depends on how historical you want to get.

I think Doc's a great motivator. He knows what buttons to push, and knows how to get what he needs from his players.

man what are fans talkin about! We should be so happy with Doc Rivers, he is just a future hall of famer. Best coach in the league with popovich. Such a great guy aswell.

You people complaining about Doc's weak points will be the first screaming to have him back when he is gone and we are in the midst of chaos with some other coach.

Simply put, Doc is one of the two best coaches in the game today and I am telling you now, is a future Team USA gold medal winning coach.

He has a tremendous defensive scheme. He can draw up out of bounds plays after TO's like no other. He has the ears and respect of the superduperstars in this league and across the world. He might be the best motivational coach we have seen in the NBA in decades. He's fabulous with the press and he gets the most out of his players while getting them to buy into his system.

That's a great coach people and he will be sorely missed when he is gone.
