"The Celtics are going nowhere with this team this year and in the future. If they continue with Kevin and Ray, expect low results."
 - Stuart Scott
In the offseason:

1. Sign back/Keep Pietrus(vet.min), Pierce, Rondo, Moore, Bass, Stiemsma
2. Sign&Trade JO+Ray(low contract)+Wilcox to NO for Kaman+Jack
3. Sign&Trade Dooling+Bradley+3J to T-Dot for Ed Davis
4. Sign Mayo(O-Fence, likes Rondo), Barnes(D-Fence, good fouling/guarding on pros)

Line-up:

PG Rondo/Jack/Moore
SG Mayo/High 1rd pick/Pietrus
SF Green/Pierce/Barnes
PF Bass/Davis
C  Kaman/Low 1rd pick/Stiemsma

Rotation:

G Rondo 35
G Mayo 30
F Green 30
PF/C Bass 30
C/PF Kaman 30
------------------
F/G Pierce 33
PF/C Davis 18
G Jack 12
G High 1rd pick 9
F Low 1rd pick 9
G Moore 4

Pierce = 6th man of the year or bust
Banner 18 coming when they get their chemistry going.
[If not Mayo, Eric Gordon since he's as good for knocking down shots]

One observation before my two cents:  Paul Pierce would not be a lock for 6th man by any stretch.  It wouldn't be automatic, I mean.

But to the point, after posting this in the $25,000,000 thread, my roster depends on getting DH, a deal on JGreen, and then asking Ray and KG how bad they want to win another one (to take near-minimum money).

Rondo
Highest Draft Pick or Player Obtained In Trade for Pick
PP
KG
DH

Bench

Bradley
Ray
JGreen (also plays some PF next to KG)
J3 (short minutes)
Steimsma (short minutes behind DH)

DH is the key piece.  I can't imagine a frontline with KG and DH.  I think the prospect would keep KG around another couple of years.  There is no other option that comes close to what he would do for this team.  We'd have 4 allstars starting again, with Ray and JGreen anchoring bench scoring.

Unstoppable.

I wouldn't be quoting Stuart Scott as a expert in how to run an NBA team if I were you. His opinion on what to do with the Celtics and where they are going this year are as valid as anyone who posts on this board as far as I am concerned.

The team is going wherever it goes this year which will be as far as the vets will take it. I don't expect a blow it up mentality out of Danny because long term, it just makes little sense.

Next year, barring a signing of Dwight Howard, which I find extremely doubtful, KG and Ray will be gone, Danny will preserve cap space for the following year, he will sign players to one year contracts and develop the youth and lose like crazy to get high lottery picks in 2013 and 2014.

That team is definitely a whole lot of mediocre players. If Mayo could rise a level or two, I would review it as a fringe top 4 team in the East.

That team would be very challenged to get by Chicago or Miami. Perhaps they would snatch a game or two. The Pacers and Sixers would probably give that team a whole lot of trouble too, although I think they could be competing for 3rd, 4th and 5th seed. The Knicks and Hawks could be there as well.

Also, I do not buy the trades I am afraid. I think Toronto likes Ed Davis, so giving up JJJ and Bradley for him would be contingent to both players improving significantly from their current performance (albeit JJJ is very much a question mark). And, given that would happen, I'd rather keep them.

Also, why S&T Allen and JO for another expiring contract, when they could just outright sign Kaman? If that would be incentive to obtain Jack, I highly doubt that would fit the Hornets MO. Why stack 'win now' veterans on a team going nowhere? And Pietrus would probably not be around for the vet minimum, I think he could get MLE money, or otherwise sign a more probable contender.

Right now, if the Celtics want to be in contention for the 18th banner in the coming seasons, it to me seems like Howard or bust.
